N/A 998 Yamaha motor

The VK Pro ll was a 1049 in 2018. They could pull it for the 998 in 2020 but that model was just updated in 2016 and EPS added in 2018. They sell a pile of these in the circumpolar north and will for years.

The Vector also had the 1049 in 2018

Riddle Me This!
Why did we take the 1049 Fx Nitro Motor that people seem to love and change the cam and put it in the Vector.
Than take it and pair it with an inferior clutch / electronics and put it in the Viper and not be able to fix it. Than , Change to the 998 with questionable rods.
Just seems to be going the wrong way with what could have / should have been!

IMO Yamaha does not need to make snowmobile engines last 100k miles, they can probably spice up the 998 na north of 150hp and say last 20k miles

Almost all the snowmobile motors are based off of technology they have learned from road racing street bikes , and made to last plus 100k. The head & valve train is the base for motor output . Yamaha knows the limits of that .

The problem with a limited mileage motor, is the same with motocross bikes , if the motor goes down the bike basically scrap if it's a couple years old .to expensive to fix .
