Well i decide to change my gear today on my vecotor er. Everything went well until I got it back together. I put it in reverse but then it would go into forward after that. I took it apart again and really cant seem to figure out where i went wrong. Should the reverse linkage be flat against the inside of the cover when i put it back on or should it be in the up postion? Any tips would be helpful!

Your are probably on the right componet. The linkage position is critical. The adjustment length is also critical. On my RX-1, the upper linkage rod sits below the shift arm and bolt is pointing up. On my sled, if you do not position it that way, you can't get the Brake back on.
BTW: Are you missing the word "not" in your post?

The "arm" or "lever" inside the chaincase cover must drop down in the "slot" in the gear from the top side.
