Need Opinion on Donut Issue

2007 Attak with 3400 miles.
Went to replace the donut (preventative maintenance) and found what you see in the picture. I have copper donuts to install and am wondering if what you see requires a new Y pipe. I thought that the pipes cracked but in this case, the one clamp twisted and it looks like some material wore from the end of the Y pipe.
Also, how do you inspect the flex pipe for cracks. Will crack be large enough to see?

If I install donuts and new clamps, do you think I would be OK? Looking for some input from people with experience who might have had something similar.

I would replace that.. replacing the donuts will not help that situation. As far as the flex pipes just look them over, if they are cracked you will see it as well as black deposits on the areas that were leaking.

agreed that is a new y pipe or one of those slip on flange replacments that is what happes alot flange cracks or gets cut off from loose clamp. if it is loud look further back in the system you may find a crack or hole at the two into one of the silencer as well but that is stainless and can be welded.

A few years ago I had the exhaust all apart. The flex pipes all looked real good... ...not sure why but I picked one pipe up, covered one end with my hand and wrapped my other hand around the other end of the pipe-- then blew into the pipe keeping my mouth tight to my hand; no air leak there. When I got to the 3rd pipe the air blew out of a hairline crack in the flex part of the pipe- I was sure they were all good, glad I checked them out. Replaced with a used pipe from fleabay and no issues since.

As far as the Y pipe goes, it's easier to replace them both in the off season with stainless pipes while parts are available. Otherwise you risk having to fix it when you're suppose to be riding. All the original Y pipes will go bad, it's just a question of when...

replace that pipe, air test the flex pipes.

I am replacing the one pipe and will test the flex pipe. For the other side (left side) I will test it when I get it apart.
New copper donuts and clamps are also going on.
