Gentleman, I have a friends 2019 SRX on my lift that I regularly service. Last week after riding 2hrs without issue the sled died, having no skills he had a friend tow it back. Took me 2 mins to find a blown 30amp battery fuse, replaced it and it popped right away. Long story short I checked all the usual rub areas and can't find anything that might cause it, I tested the red/white on the battery circuit with an ohm meter to ground ant it reads a short. I pulled the voltage regulator and that read 3.5, stator tested .4 on all 3. I assume when I unplug the regulator its an interruption of power to the fuse block because when I plug it in, the batt fuse pops. I don't wrench as much as I used to so I'd appreciate it if you might have a suggestion how to proceed, thanks for your time.....
Btw, I have the Cat manual but it doesn't have the wiring diagram...useless

Did you check under the fuse box for rubbing and/or chaffed wires?

Voltage regulators on these sleds are notorious for problems. The fact that the fuse pops when you plug the regulator in I would start by replacing it. There are a couple 998s in our group that have had to replace the regulators. Most guys buy the RM stator voltage regulator for replacement.

If regulator was good, that would not happen.Voltage regulators on these sleds are notorious for problems. The fact that the fuse pops when you plug the regulator in I would start by replacing it. To the first reply, I've read all there is to read over the years so it was the first thing I checked, perfect, along the lower engine mount also. I read about issues with the 2019's so I took the front apart to pull it and check, not sure how to tell thought if its bad.....

What brand battery is in this sled?

He just bought the battery this season, looks like a generic amazon battery to me. He also mentioned he used a jumper pack a few times when he had to move it before he got the new battery. He did ride it a few hours without issue with the new one.

Possibly a lithium ion battery. A few issues have come up with these style batteries if they have a system built in them that shuts the battery down when it gets low on voltage. Dont remember the term but if you use one of these and the battery tries to save itself from low voltage it can fry the voltage regulator. Jumping these batteries also can cause issues. As others have stated replace the regulator and check the battery and if it has (battery management system). BMS ? cant remember if this is the proper term. Knapp has written a few posts about these lithium ion batteries and what to not use. And I believe a few on here have seen these batteries take out a regulator.generic amazon batter

Thanks, I've read those posts myself, I just checked and its a standard AGM battery. I was leaning towards the regulator myself but hate to toss a working part.

Well I have been watching these parts on ebay. This guy is close to me and was thinking about picking a few things up for spares. He obviously buys crashed and parts them out. I don't know him personally but I have heard he does good work and is a good wrench on sleds.

I've been around since I bought my 17', being a 2 stroke guy my whole life I needed an education, we always did the same for all all the guys on the other site but I'm no 4 stroke expert, this is a great resource for sure.....
