Went out for the first time since I bought it to do a little racing on the lake with my 03 RX1 and really didnt figure I had a chance with the big boys (mach1000, 800 xp 800 rev ) but i was really surprised the old rx held its own out there against well clutched sleds, problem I am having it is really quick to 90mph stock setup. only mod is rivets ground flush in weights to get 10200 it just does not seem to pull very hard at all from 90 to 100..... 102 max... every thing is stock and where it should be at as far as settings just need that hard pull right to the end, thats where they got me... Help Please

You have 135 hp & 600 pound sled. They all have 20-30 hp & 50-150 pounds less. You may want to lower your expectations from a 600 pound 135 hp sled.

Need to go a little quicker from 90-100 thats all , I realize its heavy and doesnt have big horsepower but im not going to pic on smaller sleds either, it is 1000cc, so I have to run accordingly or close,, everybody got to start somewhere

How many sled were they putting on you was it 1 or 2 or 5 to 6 or more if it is 1 or 2 try greasing jack shaft bearings make sure your chin is on the bars lower wind sheild lower suspension make sure your suspension is greased all bearings are good New belt and so on. Also just because you have a 998 cc sled dose not mean you have the same horse as a 1000 cc two stroke sled the 2003 rx1 is competive with 2003 800 two stroke sleds on the lake. you have about 139 horse stock so some of the new 800s are about 150 to 155 as dose the apex has so you would not be picking on smaller sleds not even talking about the weight diff. Good luck it no fun anyways to be the fastest on the lake because people will quickly stop lining up with you L.O.L

That was a little harsh Turk. There are RX's that run in the 1 teens on the dream meter. Like mentioned above grease or replace the drive shaft and jackshaft bearings, they add a LOT of drag. Check your track tension. Run 87 otcane and not premium in it. Lastly hunker down as close to the bars as you can. I can pick up 3 mph just by reducing the wind resistance of my head!

Yeah, mabey next year, is there a little more aggressive weight and spring I could try in it to make it pull harder ? Im trying to keep the family sleds (4) running so mine always gets worked on last, so I havent really had the time to test with it yet!

03 Rx1
I own an 03 Rx1,the 09 apex can't keep up with me on hard pack trails or roads.I was getting 115 mph on the speedo this week.
I raced the new Z1 turbo in a field and left him in the dust,i was quite impressed. Then we went on the road for some radar runs.I got 115mph but my helix was set up poorly cause all i could get was 9600rpm,i set it up the next day but didn't have the gun but im sure i would have seen 120mph on the Gun.The Z1 turbo was getting 110mph time after time, not to bash Artic Cat but for a $17,000 machine with supposedly 175 hp,i would be ashamed of eating dust from an old 03 Rx1.
You can really make these old timers go, with a bit of tuning and patience....lol
