I've been lurking for a few weeks and found this site to be very informative, so I signed up since I just bought an '08 Apex LTX on Monday.

I'm looking forward to exchanging ideas and so forth about these sleds. I've only ridden it in the yard, but I'm VERY impressed so far. The sled has fresh oil and a fresh belt - so with only about 2000mi on it, she's good to go...but I want to go through it and make sure everything is up to par.

Little background info on me: I grew up riding Skidoos from the early 80's through the mid-90's (Olympic, Safari 377cc, Formula MX 460ish cc, etc.)...then the family got out of sleds and into power boats since we always seemed to run out of snow. Now I'm finally back into sleds; this is the first sled I've ever personally owned. Four strokes sleds are still sort of new to me, I've been on an '06 Apex GT and a brand new 3-cylinder Arctic Cat last year. After a short while on those sleds, I'm sold on 4-strokes for good and I honestly think the Yamaha 998cc engine is the best thing since canned/bottled beer.

When is the next Central WI TY trail ride?

Matt

Welcome and enjoy your new Apex. First thing to do is ride it and see how it handles and how good/bad evrything is. Meaning handling, suspension, darting, and other things. Take mental notes then come back here and post your findings or do a search to help you address any inssues you may or may not have. First mods generally are clutch kit, skis/carbides, suspension upgrades etc. these sleds are awesome but no matter what every sled has a few quirks some models more than others but the Apex is the best sled out there today this is of course my opinion but I think most will agree. Ride safe but Ride like Hell and enjoy

Thanks!
I hope to put some miles on this winter, but we will see how mother nature and father time feels about my plans.

The skis have Woody's Dually carbides and the track has a ton of 1-1/4" stainless studs as my garage floor can fully attest.

Every once in a while, I found it stumbling just a little when getting into the throttle. I've been reading how these engines like to foul plugs if you don't warm up the engine, so I'm sure that is an area to address.

Other than that, the thing is just awesome.

Thanks for the tips!

If it doesn't have fresh gas in it I would change that first before plugs . Welcome to the site ! :yam:

I filled the tank on the way home with the finest Kwik Trip 87 octane. It's entirely possible the wrath of last year's ethanol tainted fuel is the cause of my stumble. It only happened once or twice and it's not like it fell on its face...but was enough to notice for sure.

It doesn't feel right to put 87 octane in such an engine...

I know I just sold my srx and thats all I used for years. Mine was doin that and i put a can of sea foam and fresh gas in it and runs great now .

Good call. The previous owner spoke highly of Sea Foam - I'll have to try it out.
