New 2017 Yamaha Sleds...

WOW, T Bone! Some deep thoughts there. Ponder this in the wize words of Oger. What if CAT was spelled DOG? o_O

Holy Smokes!!! I believe I just cracked the code/hint that Chris gave us by showing that picture! Looking closely at that pic, I thought that it might be tracks created by some animal, but what? At first I thought Cat, but that is nothing new...then I remember back last year when I posted a thread on Yamaha trademarking the name "Sidewinder" here:http://www.ty4stroke.com/threads/2016-yamaha-sidewinder.131697/

Then I thought, is that a pic of Sidewinder tracks? Upon googling images of Sidewinder tracks, sure enough, I came across the very same image that Chris posted on his blog on this webpage (bottom right corner)http://www.16streets.com/MacLaren/Travel and Surfing/29PalmsJune2012/Page03/Page03.html. Reading the blurb on the picture, it mentions a Sidewinder leaving these tracks.

Looks like we will have a new sled in the lineup after all...the 2017 Yamaha Sidewinder!

:jump:

I just hope this sled is not gonna be a replacement for the SRX120 :bore:

A tree falling in a forest, makes no noise unless there is someone to hear it.
My guess is on a all electric sidewinder sled.

Has battery technology advanced far enough?

I wouldn't be surprised. Most snowmobilers around here only do short trips. (Ice fishing, wood cutting, ditch banging...) and we see more and more electric cars on the road. The amount of torque on start up would be great for users that work with their sleds and the reduced maintenance and operational cost could entice many who are intimidated by 'engines'.

...and you could use the reciprocating motion of the suspension components to power multiple generators for charging. The rougher the trail - the faster you go!

How about a new motor utilizing the technology in their SHO outboard motors. The plasma fused cylinder walls have some advantages over traditional steel sleeves. Its traditionally lighter by allowing larger displacement in similar sized OD cylinders. This also allows for heat to be dispersed more efficiently allowing for a potentially smaller cooling system. Third this technology is supposed to have less parasitic energy loss, which provides better torque, hp, and faster acceleration.

I Think it's a new Rotary Engine , look at the circles........ Very compact , could be laid down flat . Low center of gravity !

Have you seen any Yam patents for rotary engines?

I'm hoping its the crossplane R1 motor in a new, Yamaha built chassis.

Rotary engines have proven to be very challenging to make fuel and emission efficient. Not that I care about the latter...

Batteries are still HEAVY and still don't perform well in the cold. If you think it's hard finding a recharging station in most cities, try finding one in the UP...

Not to be a nay say'er just my skeptical engineer coming out.

I'm just throwing different idea's since it seems we have not touched the 'supposed' secret new things coming our way.

The new headturner is a dirtbike whit a factory fitted track and ski.

^^ I certainly hope that's not the big release. I don't think they're even legal on our trails at this time.
