Just traded my '03 RX1 for a 2011 Apex SE and would like advice on breaking the new sled in properly. Any thoughts on a good break-in strategy?

Perfect! This is exactly what I'm looking for in hopes of getting some additional perspectives. Thank you
Just don't hold it wide open. Varying the engine speed is the important thing.
Short full throttle bursts wont hurt it.

In my opinion I think one of the most important break in procedures is letting the sled go through a handfull of warm up cool down cycles. I really think this helps seat the rings and get everything meshed together, plus it's a lot of fun to run that brand new hot rod, have a great winter.
Yeah, around there is ok. I gradually held it open longer as I drove it. I really didn't hold it open a long time (over a 1\8 mile) until I changed the oil at 500 miles. It really starts to wake up around 1500-2000 miles. I think around 900 or 1000 miles I actually held it open for 5 or 6 miles. I have a little over 8000 miles on it now, I don't get any oil in the airbox from the breather, so the rings must have seated properly.

X2, And keep a eye on the oil, seen a hand full use a lot of oil for the first 200-400 miles.

Thanks! This is all very helpful and I love this site. My problem will be keeping myself from starting it up sitting in the garage waiting for the snow to fly!
If you start it, don't touch the throttle until the temp light goes out. Also let it run until it's warmed up. If you don't you'll foul the spark plugs

Thanks, manufacturer recommended initiating the break-in with running it at idle for 15 mins. That is the only time I have started it so far and don't plan to again until I get it under load. Thoughts?
Honestly, I run them like I stole them. Key is to warm up completely, and vary throttle often. I will even make WOT runs during break in. Just won't hold wide open more than 1/8 or 1/4 mile bursts for the first couple hundred miles. Really what was stated above, except I believe the worst thing that you can do, is baby the machine.

I always LOAD and UNLOAD the engine so accell to 100 mph then coast to 40 mph, etc. Repeat for the first trip out for about 20 mins and you should be set, just ride it like you stole it after that.
Congrates on new sled!
