Oh they work alright no doubt about it and you dont have to worry about using your reverse any time you want too. Build them with two holes though for sure to hold the cable down and keep pressure on your scratcher.

Here is the link to Sled Dog's original design.

If you look on page 3 you can see how I bent my modifed design so the tit fits in the second hole to prevent the angle from changing.
Our sleds have 4000 mi and 4700mi ,only on the second set of slides. On the 1st set the cables only lasted about 1400 miles, but the present sets of cables have near 2500 miles and look good. Never changed any thing ??

Had them on my sled for 3 weeks and well they don't work. There's not enough down pressure to get them to spray up enough snow. Also one of mine snapped off after a week of riding, got a new one then the end section broke off
Got rid of them and went to the ski scratchers way better.

I agree with niko, they don't work for crap.
I made a set like Sled Dog made and burned up one set of slides per day in the UP. 300 miles from a set of slides, thats a first for me. Usually last 3000 miles, not 300.
Cables don't apply any pressure, springs mounted on the skis do the trick, just don't backup with them down.

I will also agree the ones I made were no good for ice they were never designed for scratching ice. I dont ride on ice ever but they will sure work for what they were meant for to toss up some loose snow and snow dust in front of your track for cooling and lubrication. On straight ice no they will not work on hard packed trails I let a few in front of me chew up and make some loose snow and these fling some of the snow up into the track. For what they were designed for they work to throw up some loose snow or snow dust not chew into ice making ice snow chips. These news ones with the ice pick could very well work on ice if there is enough down force on the cable and the cable does not work its way to a straight back position in fact losing its downward pressure.

I was running groomed trail with cables, not ice and the cables were worthless. 275 miles per day and slides were wore to alum rails. Had a turbo on that sled with fully clipped track, cables did nothing to help hyfax wear. Cats and ski-doo that were with had no sticking problems whatsoever. Mine had to have hyfax replaced everynight even with the cables in the snow capital of the world, the UP of Mighigan. Cables just don't seem to do nothing, great concept though.

the ice scratchers darenello posted pics of are the best, followed by the rail mounted ones. both kinds will scratch hard blue lake ice, but you cannot back up with either kind. i personally like the ones pictured as you can lower the left one without stopping, and the vibrations in the running board are a reminder that it is down. 95% of the time one is all that is needed, meaning the other is a spare.

They look nice but do not work very well. They will end up making aweful scratches in the plastics right over the end of the scratchers. The bolt holding them in place do not offer enough clamping for to hold them in that position for very long either, they move backwards and start hitting the plastics like said. When backing up they bend forward if they get caught in an obstacle. I know as they have been available in Norway for years, had them in my 03 RX-1 and they did not survive the first month of use before I called it a day and throw them in the garbage.

I ran these on the 06 TY Manitoba ride members here have seen them in action all groomed trails with a 151 2inch paddles mountain sled with no wear on the slides go figure. Must have been better snow! lol Now did I mention the people on the ride can vouch for me that they were on the sled and I was indeed running a mountain track on groomed trails doing a minimum of 150 to 250 miles a day for four days straight and I ran those same slides all winter. So please explain that and with a mountain track yet with 2 inch lugs. I should have seen the kind the wear you seen but no I was in the hotel hot tub drinking beer and eating Musher Mama beef jerky every night not changing my slides.
