2009 Yamaha Phazer FX
So, I know this is going to get bombarded with opinions, but i am annoyed with Yamaha and will be looking to upgrade from my 09 Phazer at some point. What would be a good "next step" sled and why? I would prefer to stay 4 stroke.

Thanks for any advice!

You like the top speed of the Phazer or want more? Love the Nytro and Viper... but the Viper is quicker, more trail friendly and has a lighter feel.

I love everything about the phazer aside from the speed. It bogs down on steeper climbs etc.
And have found the size of the physical nytro and viper intimidating.

If you can get out on a ride and try one out, might be the best... the Viper really works well from 0 to 80

I upgraded from a 2007 Phazer to a 2011 Nytro XTX, it took a little while to get used to the bigger sled, but I quickly fell in love with it! We also have a Viper in our riding group which I have ridden several times and think it's a pretty decent sled as well. Your best bet would be to try out both sleds before you make your decision, since we're coming up on the end of the season you should be able to find some pretty good deals on either of them.

Thanks. I have riden the nytro you have and find it a bit of a monster. Hubby wants the viper. Maybe will wait and ride his when he gets it.

It's a tough call as there is no Yamaha with similar dimensions to the Phazer. I have thought this over as well with the phazer in our fleet. It can be costly, but I think there are some turbo options that would give your phazer a bit more snap. I say a bit, as a low-boost phazer would keep it reliable and able to run pump gas.

I have explored a SkiDoo option like the 900 Ace for my daughter as well. She has yet to outgrow the Phazer, but I will let her try one out as an option and keep us all four stroke. Now that they have been out a bit, we may see more used options with that engine. They don't come around as people really like them.

Good luck,

Why do I have this gut feeling the Phazer is getting a revamp this year....... Probably because after waiting 2seasons for it I broke down and bought a new one.
Just wait it out Shelby!! See what options there are once the 16's are released. I think it's only a week away.....
If not, perhaps like Biffdog said, I think even just and exhaust adds quite a bit of low/mid grunt. If you head any power mod you should be prepared to get into the clutch. By the sounds of the bog, you may want to get into it before hand and you may find it'll wake that Phazer right up. ;)

Try and get out on a viper. Sitting on the saddle, it's stance feels intimidating but when you ride it you might be pleasantly surprised. It is a very well mannered sled and carries its weight way different than a nytro.

with some seat time on a viper I've noticed its a lot closer to the Phazer than the Nytro in feel. It SEEMS bigger but its really not and has the same "tossable" feel as a phazer does and isn't nose heavy like the Nytro. I'm going down the same path, either a new viper or building a low boost pump gas turbo and bumping my phazer to 110-115hp.

Would be best suited for Nytro just has a lot more power & most simular to Phaser
