Brand new machine, backed it off the trailer last week and have admired it in the garage since. This weekend, pulled the factory can off and gutted it, reinstalled everything, and now when trying to start it it ran like crap for a little bit...seemed like it was only on one or two cylinders. I assumed it was out of fuel as they only put a capful in from the dealership when new, so I went and got 20L of premiuim. Will fire once in a while and WOW, huge backfiring. It will not start. What is wrong? Do they have to be bled or primed if they have run out of fuel? Is there an electrical reset somewhere? I have checked all the fuses and made sure all the wiring is plugged in correctly. The plugs were wet with fuel, so I qam sure it is getting fuel now, and with the backfiring, there is obviously fel getting into the exhaust. HELP please! :?

Could be a number of things probably try 4 brand new plugs, clean your carbs, or it sounds like it could be flooded and do as someone said on here take off air box put your fingers into the carbs and hold the slides up while someone cranks it over. By doing all of this you eliminate pretty much any simple problem.
With the amount of backfiring and fire coming out of the pipes...do I really want to stick my hands in the carbs!? Will try the new plugs, what an act up with TORS? I have disconnected it until I get it running.

I know this sounds dumb, but make sure you didn't plug your exhaust somehow by accident. Maybe piled up the gaskets or something reinstalling them.
Longshot, but I've heard stranger things....

Yeh,I'd check your exhaust, those gaskets can get caught when you put the pipe back on and mash up and block up off.Another thing that has happened to us is the new plugs can get gas soaked from starting it to admire the sound, then it just quits starting, try changing the plugs.
When it was running roughly, the little bit that it did, there was plenty of exhaust gases coming out. I specifically checked that to see if more volume/pressure was coming out thab before the can was gutted. Will post pictures of this procedure. If I squashed the gaskets, I don't think the exhaust volume would have been there that was. It is like it ran out of fuel, but possibly flooding doesthe same thing, when it only runs on one or two cyls. To clear a four stoke, do you do the same as a 2 stroker - hold the throttle wide open with no choke?
flooded
no not the same
the slides need to be pushed up all the way or the floats will still pump fuel up.
just wear gloves and you'll be fine
check the plugs and the wire connections to the coil/boots for broken clips.

instead of sticking your hands in the carbs to hold them open when its flooded, just hold the throttle wide open. Every time mine gets flooded i hold it wide open and it fires right up.
Got it started!
The mystery has been solved. Whodathunk a sled with 1.6 km on it would already need a set of plugs? This better not be a sign of things to come?! Canadian Tire only had iridiums, so $36 later, she fired up straight away. The gutted can sounds MEAN!
