"One reaction I had not anticipated (but in hind sight should have) is in direct reference to calling the sled a ‘game changer’."
"From my point of view, a ‘game changer’ is based on a design or technology that first, has not been applied to the subject before (in mass production) and most importantly, adds enough value or impact so as to cause a shift within an entire industry. In other words a true game changer should be based on a new idea and cause everyone to react and follow suit in short order."
Based on the two quotes I extracted and pasted above, my prediction is that its going to be a refined version of the Apex, (slight power increase, improved geometry) and Yamaha is expecting the power steering with the new skis to add value. The power steering itself will make the machine marketable, not the specs of the sled as a whole.
If you look at these two quotes above its obvious. He says in the first quote above that in hindsite he realizes it may be worthy of being called a game changer, and then in the second quote he describes what a game changer is. To me power steering fits his description. Keep in mind he mentions later in the article only time will tell if it has the effect he thinks it will but it sounds to me like he is confident that it will. Chances are Yamaha is making the same bet and therefore not giving us a totally new machine, but a new feature with a benefit that will set the sled itself above the competition.
If this is the case my next prediction is we will not see a power increase for a long time. Yamaha will ride this power steering patent for a while. My guess is we will only see a small power increase for the next few years. Even if the competition starts producing some serious monsters, if the powersteering draws enough of a fan base, then Yamaha won't need to play that game to keep selling sleds.
Another point...He says he didn't anticipate the sled being referred to as a game changer, this further proves my point that its only a refined Apex, and he didn't expect the power steering to be that significant. My guess is when he saw how people reacted to it he realized he was wrong and thats why he says in hindsite he should have seen the sled as more siginificant to the market than he did.

^yes it does and is easily doable on the 3 holer and a 3 holer will have more torque than a 4 and is obviously lighter.
I have rode a race motor nytro and it is a whole different story compared to the 09 XTX i have some seat time on
My hopes are for a 2011 Nytro with stock 145+hp and heated grip that work

really, how did you get a hold of a race sled to try?

I think they will stay with the 4 cylinder for reasons of economy of scale. Yamaha has does a great job of porting the 4 cylinder "R1" technology across several business units. This helps keep the overall cost down.
Motorcycle,Jet boats,PWC,snowmobiles etc all use the same/similar powerplant.

I have some "friends" we'll say as i was part of the team that first brought the RX1 into racing first racing it at the soo-I500 in 2003 so I still have some yamaha "friends"
As we are looking into taking the nytro to the Soo to show that the competition should still be scared of the 3cyl after getting the 4 cylinder banned

RPMs are not a good judge of what motor is in the "new" sled. First, the gauge could be doctored, seems a bit far-fetched but Yamaha did it before on the 08 R6 motorcycle.
Second, that 1050 motor can easily spin that much. Triumph motor cycles, which I have one of, put a 1050 3 holer in all the flagship bikes like the Speed Triple, Sprint ST and Tiger. These motors easily spin to 10,000 rpms.
However, the point is taken. A triple is only going to spin so high and then be at risk for catostrophic failure. This level is several thousand RPMs below an in-line 4 holer.

Ya that sucked, but the new RS vector should be up to the task and should pretty much put a whooping on the 2 strokes again...

You know, there are three types of people in the world: those who can count and those who can't. How can we know which catagory you belong to?

i wouldnt go that far as its still heavier and under powered at that track, which power is 80% of the battle if you cant get to 112mph in the straights you might as well put it on the trailer, which the 3 cyl have had a problem with getting to, I will say that a 3cyl has not been in the right hands as of yet either thought to make it go that fast and the reason why I rode the snocross sled to see if geared correctly could do it and I will say it showed alot of promise

Seems everyone is set on that this is the final chassis, and its seems to be a motor debate. What if this is just a test mule to showcase the new power steering and suspension & motor.

This is by far the best post I have seen in a while!!!! LMAO!!!!
Revamped Apex or not, I am keeping my opinion to myself until I ride it!!!

This is what I am hoping. Very unlike Yamaha to allow pictures to be snapped and posted on the internet. Something tells me that is not it 100%. Many times the OEMS will produce sleds with masked body parts or as hybirds of current models out on the snow for testing on public grounds.

For thoses with a Yamaha Griz 660,take a look at the SINGLE 660 cylinder and count how many header pipes are comming off that engine. 2 into 1!
