Just got a deal on a 2014 sr viper ltx se. 2000 miles and stock.can i change gearing for a bjt more top end without sacrificing too much bottom? I figured with the torque of the 4 stroke i may be able to go a tooth or two. I also want to know if theres something like a programmer or can thats quite that i can install to give me a bit more hp...no turbo until next year

J2hizzo - There are numerous pages of info here to look into, but I will say if you aren't going turbo and want some top end speed....don't change the gearing. #1 - get a good clutch kit! Best bang for the buck is Thunder Products Big Venom Kit that has been proven on many stock Vipers over 100mph. The clutch kit is also adjustable and when your sled breaks in more, you can add weight to the clutch weights to keep you off the rev limiter. #2 - the stock can is restrictive to a point....but check your local laws as the aftermarket cans may be illegal to run....but I run the Evolution Powersports Magnum muffler and is trail decibel friendly. You can see my videos of a bunch of aftermarket exhausts I have tried on You tube "Terry Burmeister". There is a "do it yourself" airbox mod with directions on what and how to do it right here on Totallyamaha. Depends on how much you want to spend? Evolution Powersports also has the ECU flash in different stages for your liking

NOS-PRO is dead on with his suggestions. If you want a full exhaust with new headers- I had very good gains with Hurricane Performance Kit.( Which is a full new exhaust, and a air box mod). If you go this route or just a new muffler. You will need to add weight to your clutch arms. otherwise you will be all over the rev limiter.

I took gears and chain from a xtx 21/41 and put in my Ltx se along with air box mod different muffler and clutch kit helix and I am able to hit 106 mph on a hard packed gravel road.

So with just the Thunder Products Big Venom Kit and a otherwise stock sr viper i should see 100+?

Under the right conditions. Don't go making bets till you know.

Until i know? Thats why im asking. Its $300 for kit so id like good info

Well if you are thinking 100mph consistently a turbo is needed or a lot of $ and internal mods. This is no SRX. Conditions kill top end on this sled.Until i know? Thats why im asking. Its $300 for kit so id like good info

I put the big venom clutch kit on my stock '16 rtx le and went from 86mph top speed to 99, same trail same day. Unfortunately it was at the end of a bad snow season so I only put about 20o miles on with the new clutching. I am happy with the improvement so far.
QUESTION... what belt do you guys recommend using with the big venom kit?
I'm thinking about trying the 8jp length gates. I ran the 8dn yamaha belt last season.

One big recommendation I'd have from first hand experience of owning a 2014 Ltx SE for 3 seasons now is to pull those rear shocks out and send them to cannondale to be revalved and setup to your weight. May not seem like it but stock shocks in the Ltx SE can be a big hinderance when it comes to performance. The biggest advantage of properly setup shocks is obviously the ride quality but the way those shocks came from factory, even me weighing 250 or so with gear had a hard time getting the suspension to move. Having efficient top speed comes from an easy rolling track and very flat approach angle on the front of the skid as well as keeping the track planted on the ground good over small choppy stuff so you always have traction. Proper shock setup will give you all of that which will result in better and more consistent top speed as well as a phenomenal ride. If you want to buy performance stuff like a clutch kit or exhaust or whatever else the sled will respond very well to those things but if you have a suspension that's not working properly I can tell you 100% without a doubt that it's holding your sled back. best thing hands down that I did to my viper was send my shocks out, turned it from a bucking bronco into an all around awesome sled no matter what the conditions were.

In theory the gates belt will pull more top end because it's wider, I ran one on my turbo and from my experience it proved true, it was consistently 3-4 mph faster than the 8jp or 8dn which on my sled were identical as far as performance. (8jp wouldn't hold up on my turbo tho) I used the 8jp equivalent gates belt and put probably 5-600 miles on it and no signs of any wear whatsoever, clutching needs to be adjusted some to run that belt however because it is a much more grippy belt compared to the Yamaha belts.

True. Thanks for plug Studroes. A little secret also. Tightening up the limiter strap to the 4th hole is good for 3 mph easy with no other changes but it is not very rideable in the rough. Lower is better for speed on top.One big recommendation I'd have from first hand experience of owning a 2014 Ltx SE for 3 seasons now is to pull those rear shocks out and send them to cannondale to be revalved and setup to your weight. The Gates grabs the clutches better....both 8JP and 8DN lengths....The 8DN length got me 2mph more than the 8JP length.

Yes, many people that switched over to the Big Venom Kit from Thunder Products are seeing 100+ on stock vipers in the right conditions as Cannondale mentioned.

My buddy ran Hurricanes kit ( full Hindle exhaust, PC5, air box mod, and Hurricanes clutching) and said 100 mph was a regular speed in pretty much any condition....2014 LTX SE
