Couple of other things I just thought of.
I sometimes use a fish scale, but my preference is to put 22 lbs of weight in the track when checking (I keep a 10kg weight in the garage for this purpose). Just remember to take the weight out before riding.
By putting a weight in the center you end up pulling the track down a little less so I do effectively run the track a little looser than the fish scale method.
Also for most of the season I did run the limiter strap 1 hole tighter. Personally I don't think this makes much difference to hyfax wear (I broke them in and rode quite a lot with the limiter stock), but it might have some effect.

I noticed my hyfax wearing alot when I first bought my sled, but after about 300 miles they stopped wearing. I now only have about 600 miles on it, and I'm not thinking of replacing them this year. My dealer sid they have heard of alot of accelerated wear until they have about 50% life left, and then they seem to stop wearing.
So far, I'm not going to worry about it.
