Hey all. I bought an rx1 last year that had a facelift as many seem to have done with apex plastics and seat.
Last year I noticed gas slowly dripping/leaking down the side of the seat so I investigated and found that the PO used a rubber gasket sandwiched between a homemade circular plate and the gas tank. He bolted it to the tank to cover the hole where I *THINK* the fuel pump would be on an efi apex.
I tried to goop on some RTV in there but it still seems to leak, albeit slowly. I can't seem to find any parts fiches that show anything other than a fuel pump in place. Any ideas on a part I can buy/use to seal up the leak?

The gas hoses go through this plate also -- wouldn't it be easier if the hoses went out the front of the tank??

Yes, it would definitely be easier if the hoses went out the front of the tank like they do on the original tank that the carbureted RX-1's had. It appears the PO also swapped out fuel tanks and installed the one from the Apex which would have the fuel pump in that hole. Not sure what others have done or if they even swapped out tanks. Outside of contacting Travis at Barn of Parts to see if he has one off a parted out Apex. Although technically speaking the pumps wouldn't even need to function, you would still have to plug the stem where the fuel line connects to (ie the angled stem on #5).

Here's an image of the RX-1 tank.

Good idea. I'll just find a dummy fuel pump assembly to fill up that gap, assuming it doesn't cost a limb.

So your sled has an apex gas tank&apex gas tank cover on it?

I honestly don't know the slight differences between an apex and an rx1 gas tank cover but from my image searches, it looks like I have an apex gas tank cover. Why do you ask?

Just curious as I put an apex seat on mine but thought the hood, gas tank cover etc were totally different&wouldn't fit on the rx1 chassis.

that is apex plastics on it. be a few members that might be interested in how it was done.

He had to change the tank as the rx1 tank don't fit with apex steering. I know that because I installed a apex engine with plastic on a 2005 rx1

might need to make the plate out of thicker plastic.

The plate is made of aluminum, if I had to guess, 2mm thick. I found some fuel pumps on ebay for fairly cheap. I'm going to get it out of the garage corner one of these days and tinker with it more.
