Hello All,
Glad to be a forum member.
Recently purchased a used 06 Apex GT. The shock wire was broken, soldered them together. Still will not switch into shock mode on the mode switch. I have 12 volts at the wire harness to the shock plug.
I have not tested the solenoid yet, which I understand is supposed to be 5 ohms.
My question is, if the solenoid is bad how do you remove it and where can I purchase one ?
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

Port-Parts said:The plastic cap is actually an electronic solenoid and has a clip holding it into the shock body however the clip cannot be accessed to remove it. What you need to do is pry up on the edges of the solenoid and normally the plastic around the clip will break allowing you to remove and replace the solenoid. From experience some come out pretty easy others can be a real pain to get out. If your not planning on replacing the solenoid don't try removing it as it will break upon removal. The solenoids are sold through Yamaha and cost around $175 even though they are not listed on the microfiche you can get them. We normally stock the solenoid if anyone needs one.

If you contact ohlins at this link they can fix it cheap or you can get the solenoid from them $60.00 and fix it yourself ,its easy.

I used the Ohlins link a couple days ago and they referred me to Mike Carver.
Carver Performance who advertises on here sells them for around $75.

Thanks Everyone
Thanks to All for your help.
Will test solenoid this weekend to determine if I need one or have a ECU problem.
Thanks again, Ken

Different shock for Apex GT with ECS shock
Are these ECS shocks more trouble than they are worth?
Faced with replacing the solenoid, would I be better off going with a different shock package ? Hate to replace the solenoid and find out the problem is in the ECU.
Appreciate your advice and comments.

My solenoid went out dealer replaced under YES never had another problem in 6000 miles so far. What makes you think ECS is a problem as solenoid is not a big deal. If you want another shock get the mega air shock & spend a bunch of money. Ohlins are top of the line quality shocks but to each his own.
Thanks for the reply whitedust, I wasn't suggesting that they were not a good shock. What i was thinking is, if i replace the solenoid and it turns out the problem is in the ECU I might better have put the cost of the solenoid toward a new shock.whitedust1 said:My solenoid went out dealer replaced under YES never had another problem in 6000 miles so far. The solenoid is definitely dead, no ohms. Guess I can replace the solenoid and hope that is the problem.
Thanks Again

My solenoid took a dump last year. I think I paid around $180 for a replacement. You basically need to break it out of the shock to remove it. It press fit in with one way tabs that sit in an internal groove. Breaking them is the only way out.

RX10GT:
My advice: Get ahold of bjowett who also responded to your thread. Send your shock to him. Have his install the new solenoid and revalve your EC Ohlins with a more progressive stack. If you ride hard, fast, twisty, and bumpy trails you will be ever so happy you did this. Mike Carver is also exellent with Ohlins. Either one of them will get your shock better than what it is now.
You have the best shock out there. But it comes very cushy, like an old Cadillac. With a better valve stack you can get it to perform more like a Maserati......

Ordered new solenoid, hopefully that will fix things. As for the cushy ride, that will work fine for me, I am not an aggresive rider (65+) bought the 06 Apex to replace my 98 V-Max, which is NOT cushy.
Shock working great now
Installed new solenoid yesterday, working great now.
Thanks Brian
After pulling the solenoid, discovered the wires were broken right at the cap inside the jacket. When I bought it the wires were broken half way between the plug and solenoid.
