Hey guys just thought I'd introduce myself. Just picked up a 2003 RX-1 LE last night. 2000 miles on it and the thing is absolutely mint. My first yamaha and first four stroke. Came from a family of 'doo riders and was about to pull the trigger on a 'doo but then dad and bro's came home with two blown up 800's (not modded out ones but stockers one with less than 1500miles) I decided a 4 stroke was best for me. Had an uncle that picked up a pair of RX's in Idaho and brought em back so I grabbed one and couldn't be happier! Figured I should at very least say a hello as I did a ton of research before buying and this site was a HUGE help! A few mods I think I'll be looking into are an apex seat (or possibly mod the original seat), cut the windshield and paint black (same as a few members here thanks guys!), raise the bars and do mountain cables. Also have an uncle who has a nytro mtx that is gonna take out his skid and track and is buggin me to put that into the RX. From what i've read here and other places its a bit involved but can be done. Time will tell I guess! Oh and I HAVE to take off those old man side mirrors! lol A few crappy cell pics of my new tank...

congrats on the purchase.

make shure you get the right drivers when you put that mtx track in as it is not the same pitch as the ones on the sled. just put a 153" maverick in brothers 04 war with a hartman kit and ulmers clutching.

also it is not reccomended to tie down or lift from the front bumper as people have ripped them off lifting sleds out with them.

welcome to the yamie site.when i first got my 05 rx1 did not like it.it a differance experiance.give it time and you will love it.with a few cheap mods like shimming rear of skies to stop darting and bigger wheels in skid and getting it clutched right i really love mine.but give it a chance and you will see thats its a great sled and set up right will holds it own also.mine has abit higer seat the 05 were 50 mm higher maybe just get foam put in seat and play with suspension you can get it acceptilbe i have set up many 04 and they love them again welcome alot of great people on this site with all kinds of knowledge

were your ski leg bolts in under the rubber on the ski on the back half i put a shim this puts more pressure on the rear of the ski and doesent allow it to track as bad.i put polaris wheels in the middle quarter of a inch bigger and the three large ones at rear i put kimpex in .3 of an inch bigger no slide issues anymore.the polaris wheels fit a 1993 indy five hundred the kimpex last longer than orignal polaris for some reason/on your tranfer rods in the rear suspension remove the plastic spacer on bottom and just put a washer there this will uncouple the rear suspension a bit for a softer ride

Im not trying to be ignorant, just interested in learning these things but dont really understand some terms. What does "doesnt allow it to track as bad" and transfer rods mean?

Love my "old guy mirrors" but then I'm an old guy LOL
Besides they are required by law in Que, but as you are in Sask, you probably won't be riding there!

haha thanks!

And again thanks for the info guys. Wouldn't have even though about shimming the skis. And BigFish we are not riding much here. That's why I got this sled this year for cheap! We've got enough snow to ride up north but not where I live. Havn't had much time to head up north so only minimal driving so far!

llow it to track as bad" and transfer rods mean?

When he said"track as bad" he ment so the sled does not dart as bad. Darting is when your skis follow the path it the sled in front it you. Usually will make you go side to side. As for the transfer rods they help transfer weight from front it your sled to the back or the other way around. The location is in front it your rear bogy wheels on your skid.

Edit: thank god for spell check it spelled the wrong words correct. LOL
