How about the Yamaha dealers fixing the problem. It is obvious that Yamaha knows about this and should step up to the plate!

Talked to yamaha customer service yesterday
I talked to yamaha custermer service yesterday. What he said is, Yamaha is aware of the problem and they are working on it. Thats all I got from him. He did give me the ohm readings the grips should have. I told him the sled is awesome but the grip problem gives Yamaha a big black eye. He said to check with my dealer every so often about a TSB from yamaha for a factory fix. I think the easiest fix is to buy another set of grips and plug them into wires fromthe ecm. Then just wire tie them someplace. That will make the ecm think everything is normal. Then the grips on the bars wire to a 3 position switch, being off, low and high. then supply pwr and ground to the switch. With a fuse installed down at the batt connection. Bingo warm grips and happy ecm.

The final solution
I posted regarding the inferior hand warmers on my Nytro some time back. I read for hours and hours of man made gimmicks some electric some mechanical (Cork in Bars) to solve the problem. My awesome Yamaha Dealers finally convinced me to put a set of hand muffs on my machine. After many hours of debate and stubbornness from myself I reluctantly added the muffs. The next night out was the first ride with them. The temp was -26C and we were running hard fast trails. I will admit that it took some time to get used to the constricted feeling but after about 20 minutes of riding I had to lower my bar heat to the first bar and completely turn off my thumb warmer. I ended up riding half the night with just my glove inserts. Long storey short – Hand Muffs!

I just purchased a set of the oversized FX Nytro muffs and have not yet tried them. I hope this work-heading out to Yellowstone this week. I'll post results from there.

Here's my newest finding on the warmer issue.
2 new XTXs. My wife has reported her warmers work great. Mine didn't work at all. Friday night we rode away from the truck in low single digit (F) temps and fully expected -25F on Sunday's return ride. Because of that I added the Powermadd over-the-handguard gauntlets to my bars before we left. All weekend I couldn't run my thumb warmer above two bars and the hand warmers above three or they'd get too hot. For the most part I used one bar on the thumb and two bars for the hands. The warmers worked great in combination with gauntlets. My wife always uses gauntlets, by the way. These are the identical stock warmers that don't work at all without gauntlets. I've ridden lots of machines in cold temps with and without gauntlets and I've never experienced anything like this. The stock heaters work fine if you get the wind off the bars. I think I'll pull the stock wind deflectors off and try it again with no deflectors and no gauntlets. We use tall windshields w/ side deflectors, by the way.

Stewart just a quick question do actually have Powermadd hand guards or are running the powermadd gauntlets over the top of the stock yamaha guards? Even if you do run PM's do you think they would fit over the Yamaha ones if you had a to guess?

I have stock Yamaha guards. The gauntlets have two elastic bands that are supposed to go over the Powermadd guards. Only the outer one will fit on the stock guards and the fit isn't perfect, but it's very adequate. I have no problems. I like the easy access to the grips and controls.

Yes they will fit, they are a little tighter but do work.

I bought a pair of mitts and now my hands don't get cold anymore. I will save the gloves for the spring riding. Problem solved!!

Guys if you sit on the sled with your hands on the bars you will notice that the air travels under the hand guards and into your fingers.
If you swap hand guards, putting the LH left on the right side and RH right on the left side, the protection is much better to the fingers and the grips feel warmer.
There is a part number on the guard with letters, LH and RH. Thumb is warmer as well.

Why not loosen the two hex screws on the mounts and rotate them down? I believe I'll give that a whirl. Thanks for the tip.

I have the mounts reversed on mine, like longnecker says the air travels under the guards and hits your fingers, plus I have just purchased the dumbo ears.
