I have been reading all of the info on this board. I might be interested in a holtzman kit for my vector. I am afraid of ruining my motor though. Can you guys tell me all of the advantages and disadvantages of nitrous?

Advantages:
20+ mph topd end at the push of a button
Runs like stock when off the button
depending on the system you will run premium but the CB kit will allow you to run 87 which I think is awesome
Disadvantages:
After hitting the button sled feels entirely to slow
sometimes you get a spur of the moment race or want to show off the nitrous takes a little bit to prep (not much bottle on, and armed) but if your runnign next to someone on a lake and didn't have it ready its hard to do that without stopping
These engines are tough, I run a 80hp shot I think 100hp shot is safe, to conserve nitrous and be uber safe a 60hp shot would be fine.
Just pick the system that fits you best they are all quite different. Once you decide let me know cause I would like to install one on my old mans sled as well, he doesn't like losing to me all the time Be fun to comapre a vector vs rx on the bottle across a lake. If the vector is as fast that very well may be the ultimate trail sled.

i run holtzmans 60hp shot kit on my rage....anything bigger than that and barry said that i would have to run race fuel and different heads. i have yet to fine tune my sled yet, since i only have had one chance to ride it and i backed off cuz i revved to 8900 and didint want to go any higher than that. but i ran a 45hp shot last year on stock clutching and i could easily catch f7's and rev 800's on the bottle...but this year with some clutch work and carb springs, plugs i should be ready to rock-i wouldnt expect to see a 20mph top end gain but depending on the shot u could get there.

Yeah I guess I forgot to add if you run a system that depends on what fuel you run you will be limited on the shot you can run. My kit has a seperate fuel tank that I fill with 114, that allows me to run any shot up to 100 while still running the sled off the bottle on 87 fuel. My sled will do darn close to 135 mph on radar (156 on dream o meter) that is a lot faster then stock. I'll get a official radar hopefully this winter and hopefully not by a DNR person! ha ha

How long do you have to hold the trigger to hit 156 on the DM? Do you go thru a tank of nitrous on one run to hit that speed?
I gave serious thought about buying that sled from Bruce, but he said that with out gas the sled run like a 600. I just didn't like that idea. I know it was going to be fun on the gas but I figure that you might be on the gas less than 5% of the time. How do you like the sled. I know you had a little problem with the suspension but other than that what do you think of it on the gas and off the gas?

What octane were you running with the 45 HP shot??????

my buddy runs a boss kit on his vector and the first time he used it he kind of forgot to tighten the main feed line (he put the T inside the air box), and he squished the rings tight on 2 pistions and pushed the head gasket out. moral of the story... they can take ALOT of nitrous before you run into problems, he made 2 6-8 second shots before she blew. now he runs a 60 shot on premium fuel with zero problems for the last 2 years.
Anyone install a nitrous kit on a Mountain vector? What kind of performance increases did you see in deep powder and hill climbing?

The biggest problem with nitrous is the fact that you can only carry so much on any given day. A 60 shot will go through a 3 lb bottle in about 40-50 seconds. So, if using it mountain riding or lake racing, you will be out really quick. I have one 3 lb bottle in my trunk and one in the nose of my sled. So, I am set up with 6 lbs but it still goes too fast.
45 shot run pump gas but maybe 92 or 93 octane.

On glare ice you might be able to do it with an Apex + 60 shot. Never happen on a Vector or RX-1 unless you have a bigger shot. I run ashpalt which is probably faster than ice and have hit 134 (true speed) in the quarter. It takes about 9.5 seconds ( 1lb ) of nitrous. To hit 156 mph on dreamo you are limited by gearing and rev limiter. At 134mph (true speed), I am at 11,150 rpm's and just about to hit rev limiter. That is with stock gearing.
