No idle

Well the sled was hauled to the dealer. I checked spark, new plugs all vacuum lines, adjusted out the loose throttle cable and nothing.

The sled has been babied when it comes to running hard with the mpi. I did not do a compression check, but dealer will be trouble shooting it.


I had a very loose throttle cable during the demo ride 2014 very low idle (500rpm) little throttle I was able to ride. All af numbers were good. So I rode. Also it's been stored since then. Then all the about this last week.

Since I do not have a compression tester I could not rule that out. But could the arctic cat throttle body could be the cause?

I called the local cat deal, he recommended bringing it in that I could not do it in my garage without the right equipment? Just wonder if they know what it will take to fix.

Just out of curiosity did you try pulling the belt off and see if it would idle fine? I know that happened to me when I adjusted my belt deflection too tight, I had no squealing or belt burning smell but it dragged the engine idle down till it would stall the engine. It would idle around 700-800 rpm. Funny thing was it was all fine and then I put on about 100klms or so and then it was stalling out because the belt was too tight, you would think it would of been issue right when I adjusted the belt but it wasn't an issue until I put some miles on. Something to look at anyways, sometimes things are simpler than you would think. Hopefully it all works out for you.

Old school compression test, spin the engine without it starting and see if it spins smooth. A dead cylinder will spin faster and you can hear it.

It still did not idle without the belt.

Finger over the hole. You will know right away. Hard to do with them way down there but it should forcefully blow your finger off the hole. But does it run off idle? If so probably not compression and more likely a component. We have Keihen Throttle bodies not cat.

Did I miss where you figured out the issue?

Was your ECU reflashed? The 1338 code was an issue with 2014 sleds before reflash.

Sorry did not follow it up. We did the flash and it is idling. Not enough time on the flash yet, but I understand it will take a little to get out the gremlins.

So, FYI my 2014 mpi turbo just decided not to idle. The reflash fixed the issue. So if you experience this, get it reflashed. 2014 and very early 2015 models only.

My wife's sled had a warm start issue where it briefly fired then died, and as she tried to restart the engine was popping (backfiring) but would not fire. I told her to stop and walked over and held the throttle open a small amount and it fired right up. That was about 80 miles after reflash and she has not had another problem since! 40 miles and 10 restarts since. 130 miles on our other Viper with no issues since restart and don't expect anymore on either sled.
