At least the labeling at the pump is getting better. Noticed at Shell that they disclose the ethanol content by grade: bronze: 10%, silver: 5% and gold: 0%. From what I read, all premium fuels do not contain ethanol EXCEPT for that 94 octane crap at Petro Canada (formerly Sunoco). Since most of our 4 strokes use premium, we should be good.
What is really confusing is gas stations that sell ethanol separately from their "regular' gas, like McEwen and Drummonds. That green pump has 10% but the regular pump says that it may contain up to 10%. Plus they sell it 1 cent more than regular. Sure, pay more for less efficient gas!
You guys are lucky...Down here in the States EVERY fuel grade has the same amount of ethanol: 10%. That's why I'm gunna stick with plain old regular gasoline. With a 4-stroke it's just not worth spending the extra money on the Premium stuff if they all have the same level of ethanol

What no knowledge of what this thread is about but needed to speak?ualav8 said:kviper said:This is the big problem, MIS INFORMED PEOPLE THAT BELIEVE EVERY HING THEY READ!!!!! I am a farmer and i have collected a measly couple buck's from gov program's. This couple buck's has not changed in many many years even when ethanol had very little use, Ethanol will absorb water if there is any in your tank but it does not absorb all moisture out of thin air when fueling. (use a little common sense here) No i can't use ethanol in my diesel tractor's or truck's However we do use a small percentage of bio diesel. After making 1.7 gal of ethanol from one 56 lb bushel of corn there is 48 lb of very high protein feed left over and 1.2 gal of Co2 that will eventually be used in all ac. (eco friendly). It is a very good fuel capable of making far more power than than gas and much cleaner in the end. You people need to quit being so selfish and start thinking about the future of our environment and becoming less dependent on some other country's to supply our fuel, We are at there mercy. I would go in to some other thing's but they do not want politics brought up in this sight for good reason. It will take time to convert but in the end it will be worth it. By the way the only one getting any subsidy for ethanol is the blender's for using the mandated 15%. As a farmer i get sick of feeding the big mouth's that don't have a clue. We operated at a prophet margin that most people would have given up on and lived off of the system for many many years. Now we finally come up with a few buck's and every one points a finger at us. Ethanol has been studied and researchered to death and they keep coming back to it. It is not the solve all but it is a viable tool. Get over it, Adapt and move on.
can i recommend a good spelling and grammar checker?

I know, I have heard about all of the problem's and yes it will take time for all the MFG's to get on deck but it will work and work very well. Yes ethanol burn's cooler. That's why it is burned in some of the big boost motor's (combustion chamber cooling) like a few in this site with boosted sled's that are running E-85 trouble free. The problem's are not with the internals of a motor Just with fuel system's/ Line's, tank's etc. Remember two stroke's have been blowing up since i can remember. I guess now they have an excuse. You don't need to try to enlighten me, I have been through many meeting's and heard all of the pro's and con's to a point that i don't remember even half of the detail's. As i said ethanol is only one tool in the huge equation that it is going to take to reduce our dependence on foreign oil. And it will require motor's that can burn at least three different types of fuel. The prototypes are built and ready to go. You may as well get used to it, adapt and be happy. In the end we will be able to continue to enjoy driving all of the motorized thing's that we enjoy with more power than ever.

2strokes and ethanol
We had a lot of trouble with one of the older sleds at the camp last year. the ethanol was really messing with the old 2stroke. The simple solution is to start carrying a couple bottles of dry gas with you and add it whenever you fill up. That solved our problem at least - once we started doing that the old 2stroke ran like a champ!!

1 problem with ethanal is that it will attack some rubber and neopren, also it is very corrosive. But 15% will not bother the late model sleds. The fuel injected sleds more than likly wount even know the differance. I have to aggree with Kviper, ethanal is just 1 step. But if we, the U.S.A., would have done what Brazil did when the 1st oil imbargo happened back before alot of you were born (1973), and changed to ALL vehicles to run ethanal, we could have been a major oil exporter by now. BTW, ethanal can be made from most anything with high sugar content, even wood.

Hey farmer boy,
Yes I was saying you should be extra careful filling your tank when its snowing or raining because of the new fuel. It will absolutly absorb more moisture than just gas alone!! I do agree with you that we need to cut our foreign dependency on oil. But not by ramming thuis CRAP down our throats. We have plenty of our own oil, in fact we have more oil reserves than any other country!!!! You sound like one of the global warming lunatics. Should I have my girl stop using hair spray because of the ozone layer to?? I'm sorry you didn't get a bigger handout from the government. There are plenty of credible place on the internet that are non biast were people can check for themselves to see who is right. Do you want the government to pass laws to only use ethanol mmm I wonder whose pockets that would line. tick tock tick tock oh yea the farmers like you, thats why you like ethanol. LOLOLOLOL

Kviper,
You are still looking at the small picture from your biased point of view.
1) Every single gas-powered engine out there would have to be replaced by one that could run ethanol...How much do you think this would cost? More than any country could afford, even us
2)Why use ethanol when gasoline is more efficient? I hate to burst your bubble but nature spews more green house gases than humanity EVER could. Ever seen a volcano erupt? It would takes humans years to equal the amount of GH gases pumped out by one of those. So don't try to use the "save the environment" arguement.
3) What do you think would happen to food prices if the majority of our grown products were used to make ethanol? I'll tell you what, they'd skyrocket.
4) One more fun fact for you: "If all the automobiles in the United States were fueled with 100 percent ethanol, a total of about 97 percent of U.S. land area would be needed to grow the corn feedstock. Corn would cover nearly the total land area of the United States."
In the end, ethanol, while tempting, is NOT a viable alternative to gasoline. It's barely even a puzzlepiece in the problem of getting off the dependence of foreign oil. You want to get off foreign oil, drill in the US.

x2 yamaha mainer- most of the mis informed people do not understand how much oil we have here in the USA, off shore and on land, I am all for a cleaner enviroment but not at the expense of the american people ate least not now. While the solution for gas is being explored we should be drilling and producing our own oil. There is no reason for gas prices to be were they are it is just unbelievable. We could probably be exporting it to cut the 13 trillion dollar deficet and still have plenty for 50 years. And no I don not hate the oil companies for there 4% profits on a gallon of gas, while the government confiscates 15% on that same gallon of gas.

When they replaced the reg. gas with blended at my chums pumps [IN QUEBEC] they had to install filters to catch all the crap from his tank that the blended fuel dissolves. He said he has to replace filters every few days!!! My grandson also pumps gas at a Shell station in Ontario and he told me today that they installed filters at there pumps about the same time quebec switched over to ethonol??? Will all the small stations in the bush where they don't carry PREMIUM have the proper filters??? NOT!!!

Probably not but google mr.funnel he makes a small filter that will fit in the back of your apex ,and use it every time you fill up. Thats what I'm doing. It catches any water, debris anything there is also a youtube video with demo. It will take a little longer to fill up but to me its worth it.

You think you guys have it bad we Canadians are sell suffiant in oil but we export most of it and end up paying more at the pumps than you guys!!!aceltx09 said:x2 yamaha mainer- most of the mis informed people do not understand how much oil we have here in the USA, off shore and on land, I am all for a cleaner enviroment but not at the expense of the american people ate least not now.
