Had a multi purpose died yesterday after a long run, went to put it in reverse and it just stopped, after I tried to re start it does nothing. When trying to start now I notice the yellow reverse light on when turning the ignition over. Any suggestions on what can cause this ? Fuel pump is cutting in and starter is engaging, battery is excellent. Seems like the reverse is causing something to signal and not give spark.

Any codes? Does it have a certain number of flashes?? Should be the same diagnostics as the Phazer.

thanks for the reply, i have no codes flashing at all. I did try pulling the sled backwards but still no luck. Even tried disconnecting the reverse wiring harness. going to try new plugs today just to get that out of the way.

As for the flashes of the reverse light, it will continue to steady flashing while turning the key. the sled doesn't even make an effort to cause ignition.

Have u tried unplugging the reverse actuator? Take belt off or put parking break on and start. If it starts then plug in while running. See if it will allow u to shift out of reverse.

It should start even if the engine stopped in reverse. It will automatically shift back into forward gear once the engine is running again. Being in reverse would not prevent it from starting. The fact it died in reverse is probably a coincidence. Just to be sure to eliminate the fuel system, try using starting fluid (ether) in the intake while trying to start it (remove the airbox cover to make it easier). If it starts and then dies, then it's a problem with the fuel somewhere. If it doesn't start at all, then it's something else, either ignition or possibly the ECU. It's not unheard of for the ECU to die (happened to my son's 09 Phazer).
Try the new plugs and then the starting fluid and we'll go from there.

What if the gear is stuck? It will not start because it thinks it in reverse... thats what I am getting out of it.

The engine needs to be running to shift. If it's stuck, then it will just stay in reverse and the light will continue flashing. Like I said, even if it thinks it's in reverse, stuck or not, it should start and then it will shift into forward gear. The ECU will not try to shift it until the engine is running. It's flashing to let you know that it is currently in reverse but won't stay there once the engine is started. I've done this lots of times, stopping the engine in reverse and that's what it does.

Thanks for clarifying. I have not had a Phazer for quite awhile and could not remember... I thought if I started to talk about it someone like yourself may jump in and either agree or set us straight.

The reverse on these are a bit of a strange animal and has its quirks. Takes a while to understand how it works.
