I know this is not a four stroke topic but I have a chance to pick up a 2001 low mileage SRX700 for $1800 in very good shape. I have always been interested in these sleds and thought it would make a good second/guest sled. What are some must do's with these sleds and what should I look for.
Any advice with this machine would be appreciated

I don't think you can do much, that year is suppose to be the best and fastest year for srx. The 02 has a lite or knock sensor for low octane fuel. You want to check your power valves. My son-in-law had a problem with center cylinder and they blamed it on the power valve. I have heard of very few problems with this triple, have seen one have o-ring head gasket leak after summer storage. That is a very good price, around here your looking at 4000.00 dollars for same sled. To improve the ride, you can change the shocks or suspension with the viper, but will lose some top speed. The hyfax wear can be an issue at front curve on rail, especially if track tension is tight, might require a fourth wheel kit. Good Luck with the sled. plowking

I just picked up another 01 srx. It's my favorite two stroke of all time. The clutching in these things aren't even close to spot on like the apex's are the clutching is horriab;e there is a lot to be gained you can make these sleds real quick with not much invested.

4 grand is way off for an 01, be lucky to get 4 grand for my 03 RX-1, and thats book. $1800 is very resonable though.

Reasonable??? That's a sweet deal! The same sleds are going for 3,500 to 4,500 here in ontario and none of them are really low mileage. I would pick it up in a heartbeat for that price... in fact, tell me where it is so I can go take it before you get to it!!! lol (seriously though... i'd take it if you don't)

The 01 srx is worth more around here because of the year, the other years won't bring as much, especially the first two years. Another example is Suzuki 250 and 500 quadracers, there was certain years that brought crazy money and other years weren't desirable. We use to own quadracers. plowking

I would grab that sled if you are really interested! Plenty of go fast parts with not much of and investment!

Buy it! It is a sled that will do you proud! You just have to stay on top of the power valves. Use good oil like Amsoil interceptor and add some Sea Foam in your tank once in a while. Inspect your valves and adjust them regularly (at least once a season).

The machine is great on gas and is fast! I changed up to an RX1 Suspension added Viper Shocks, Ohlin shock extenders on the fronts, a 1.25" Predator track with some clutching.

I also run oversized 5.35 idlers and SLP anti-wear pads. I ran glare ice all weekend with literally zero wear. I could smell hyfax from other sleds, but mine was fine. With the stock skid and wheels, keep an eye on your hyfax. I burned mine right through to the rails one day and wore them beyond repair.

At the radar runs last weekend on soft ice I beat countless F7's, Mach Z's new and old (except for one), Fusions, T-Cat, etc. Everyone was surprised (including me). The only sleds I didn't beat were a Nitrous RTX, 2 F1000's, ZR900 modded, and one Mach Z out of the 80 sleds that were there. So it was a proud moment for me! I wished I would have ran it earlier in the day when the ice was hard because the SRX really shines on ice when there is no resistance.

I would recommend the sled at that price. It's fun and fast!!
