Nytro Avids and powerclaw ratcheting

This was also posted on SW. I installed a set of avids the ones designed for a nytro and a powerclaw. I got a 162 PC with inside wheel kit, 240 hp MCX, timbersled. REecently the stock drivers started to skip all of a sudden, I swapped them with the avids and they continuously ratchet. I had the track tight/loose, had the extroverts on inside and center of windows, tightened chain, sucked up limiters. I just can't get it to stop and it racthets pretty easily (in deep snow when starting out or burning a donut). Only thing I dont have is a anti stab but can't see this preventing the skipping. To me it seems like the drivers are flexing and skipping, anyone running this combo? I may go back to original avids and clip the nubs on the PC?? I just can't figure it out.

Here is what it looks like right now.

Its not fully clipped, it was working fine before even with the stockers. Would it make this much difference?

I dont understand why you would go back to the normal avid.
It has less grip since it only hits one hole and a bump. These AC avids hits one hole and two bumps.

Sure your alignment is correct? i can se rubber marks on the outside of the "spike"

If i had that track i would fully clip it and install the anti-stab

Might just be the angle of the picture, but the brake side driver looks like it's too far to the right. Looks like the rubber nub on the track might be hitting the ridge between the teeth on the driver. Maybe post a straight on pic if you can.

just my opinion, and I posted it on Snowest, but I think you are getting the track binding on the rail tips...which is causing the ratcheting feeling...

Cause of my statement is those rail caps are worn, and rubbed shiny....both sides....

Solution is an anti-Stab kit...

I tried the drivers hugging the inside of thew windows and also moved them to the centers with no change - still skips. I pulled the avids off and with a small wrench on the extro vert I could flex the extrovert in the direction of force it would have. Now there is much more force that would be seen on this when in service so I a quite confident this is what was happeneing. I am just waiting for the other avids to arrive (these extros can't flex due to design), and I am also installing an anti stab. I would buy the antistab theory except I had zero issues before my stockers worn out. The anti stab is going on for insurance of the track. I may try and pull off antistab once I get it back together just to see if this is true.

X2.. Plus the powerclaw has a lighter durometer.

Hey Brutis
I started to run this same set-up as you this year with no problems at all on my '08. however I probably dont run my sled as hard as you do and my track is fully clipped as well.
Your example of flexxing the extrovert teeth is missleading or maybe its just i am misunderstanding how you tested them. Although the teeth may flex the track is not being driven by one tooth at a time. The drivers have multiple points of contract at any givien time.
I even asked Robbie H. at Avid if the extrovert teeth were weaker by design and he assured me that he has more then a few examples of people running then on High HP arctic cats without any issues of them flexxing or breaking off due to fatigue.
I would be leaning toward MTdreams suggestion or an alignment issue. It appears that you run your track looser them i do as well. You may want to read TTABS Sticky at the top of the forum. He talkes about the issue I believe MTDream is refering to toward the end of his long post. TTabs actually tore his track in two by having it catch the end of the rails under load.

Are your rear wheels in good shape and or rails straight and true? maybe they are allowing the track to become mis-aligned under hard load and allowing the track to climb up the side of the drivers and ratchet

A side note if you diecide to run the regular avid drivers dont forget that you must clip ever other outside drive cog on the inside of the track to make clearance for the drivers.

Got It!

Ok, so I replaced the power claw avids with just the regular avids and clipped the little nubbings on the track. Also installed the anti ratchet shaft. Problem is solved, I am 99% sure it was the drivers (extro part) flexing. As mentioned before my rails were no where close to the drivers and did not have issues with stock drivers. Even looking at the anti stab I dont think it will be of much value on my set-up but is extra insurance as you never know. So I guess I may have just had a bad set that flexed (persoally I think the extros should be solid down to the hub for strength) as I am the only one who apparently had this issue but I am glad Avid replaced these as I can get on a spring ride now!

This is what I could not make work.

These are what I went to.

I see one flaw in your scientific theory. You changed two things and solved the problem, therefore there is no way to determine which change actually solved the problem.

I'd still be curious if you took the anti-stab kit back off and rode the sled again whether the problem would re-appear. That way, you would know 100% what the original problem was.

Just a thought.

Ha, I knew someone would say that! Well since I am sure it was the drivers I probably won't do that for a while, just want to ride. Please don't forget like I said before....I rode this with my stock drivers for 1000 miles before the stockers crapped out w/o the anti stab...any thoughts on those facts?
