Nice...is that a Suzuki 400? I bought an enduro last year for riding forest roads and trails in da UP. Lots of fun, but they scare me way more than sleds. It is much easier to dump a bike off road.

Mike, what map did you end up running and what kind of A/F numbers are you getting? We are considering an Auto Tune and mapping from there.

Yup it's a Suzuki DRZ 400 SM. This being a supermoto has street tires. It won't see much off road riding.

I started with the Hurricane map for the Hindle system and made a map myself using the AFR gauge. Not ideal but when you mix mods like I did it kind-of required. I started by adding the fuel down low that Ulmer has on his map for the K&N intake that the Hurricane map does not have. For the most part I was seeing numbers from 11.5 to 13.3 however in the 5000 rpm range I was very lean. I kept adding fuel then testing then repeating. I also added a small amount of fuel at WOT as I was seeing 13.8. I brought it down to the 12.9-13.0 range. I still plan on fine tuning the map further next winter but between lack of snow and the sensor going on my AFR I never got it totally done. However the sled runs strong and smooth. ;)!

Cool..I think we will be getting the auto tune and mapping from there. The new design guy at Hindle knows the Power Commander stuff very well and said auto tune is the way to go. I know my sled runs up to 13.3 at WOT....from what I understand that is acceptable for a N/A sled.

Yeah that would be the way to go. I'm pretty sure I'm leaving some HP on the table with my method.

A season in review:

Well I put on just over 500 miles this year which is the lowest mileage I have seen, well probably ever. In the short season I did have here are the results.

EXCELL WHEELS: They seem to work. I don't consider 500 miles much of a test however my sliders would have normally been showing wear however they are showing very little. I'll have to hold final judgement till I put some real miles on with them.

HINDLE EXHAUST: Awesome! The sound is wicked and I am making some good power for sure. The extra power was great in the mountains I kept saying to the guys how nice it was to have more power this year.

SCHMIDT BROS STAGE II CLUTCH KIT: Wicked! This kit is not cheap but is it ever worth it. My sled is so smooth and jumps right to the powerband the way I prefer a sled function. Backshift was awesome! Then all I did was dump the weight and took it to the mountains where it worked just as well.

AEM AFR GAUGE: Worked great, reacted fast. It was a great tool for making sure I was in the safe zone with my tuning.

Plans for the summer:

Running board snow; The build up of snow on my running boards is just too much. I'm kicking myself that I didn't get the skinz boards rather then the Yamaha braces. I am thinking I will likely do some modifications to them so can actually stand on them in the mountains.

Loose steering; The bolt that the steering pivots around keeps coming loose, I'm going to need to do something with that.

Ball joints; I'm thinking they need replaced. 5189 miles on the originals and they are getting loose.

Side panel top vents; They do not work in the mountains. I'm either going to make some or buy some external ones. The stock suck even with prefilter material added.

BNG; I gotta change her every year.

Not too bad of a list. I gotta keep the cost down this year after two expensive years and now the bike purchase.

Funny you ask. Just getting to it, cleaned half the garage last night and doing the other half tonight then diggin' into the sled!!!

Bounty we need the TY Manitoba ride back to life this year. Even if it's just a handful of us, we should all get together.

What do you got planned?

Well not much for this year. I need to fix my loose steering, get some more snow moving thru the running boards, a couple of minor fixes and maintenance stuff. Then of course some BNG for the hood. Nothing overly exciting.
