Red loctite and very very tight has always worked for me on the steering pivot bolt.

Yeah that's just what I was thinking. I'm going to pull the bolt and clean it good with brake cleaner then red loctite.

Well here is the official start to the 2012 build/fix/mod season.
Here she sits and I feel guilty for her condition. I literally unloaded if from the trailer after the Mountain Trip in April and left it like this. For the first time ever I didn't even take the belt off nor did I put the battery on the charger. I know, I know, poor care and control of my equipment.
I'm going to try the photo bucket thing this year, so I'll see if I can drop a pic in right here....
As I had mentioned the to do list is as follows:
Tighten up that steering so it won't come loose again
Make some larger holes in the running boards for snow to pass thru
Fix the side panel top vent which keep falling in
Fix my tunnel where the snow flap mounts
Fix front suspension wear pads that keep breaking
Oil change
Slider change
BNG!
The other thing is the O2 sensor on my AFR gauge went. I am trying to decide between replacing that or buying an Autotune unit for the sled. I have an add in the WANTED section, so if you have an Autotune you are getting rid of shoot me a PM.

Heya Revster, You've had your rails powder coated a few times. I'd love to do the same, but have read here that some have issues with snow not sticking to the rails once they're coated. Have you experienced this? Also, can I ask what it cost you to get them done? Thanks

In addition, do you find it harder to put sliders on the rails with the powder coating on them?

No I have not noticed the snow sticking to them more or less that raw aluminum or painted surfaces for that matter. If anything I would think snow would stick less if you go with a gloss because the surface is slicker.
I don't recall what I paid, somewhere in the neighbour hood of $100-$130 for everything I have done I believe.

Not an issue, I have him mask the bottom of the rails. So just the part of the slider that curls up in the rails is touching the coating and it's not enough to give me much of a problem. Also he put bolts in areas that are threaded that sort of thing to keep the coating out of where it might cause you problems.

I finally have sometime over the next few days to get some work done on the sled. We are supposed to get a dump of snow so that should help to motivate me.
I got the front steering bolt pulled out and sure enough, covered in grease. No wonder it wouldn't stay tight.
A wire brush and some brake cleaner...
I put her on nice and tight with some red loctite.
Not a very exciting start to this year, but an important job done.

While running my sled this summer it spit out one of the upper plastic track guides. The "upper sliders" if you will. I broke these off before and damaged a bunch of track clips, so at least this one hung in there till summer.
I attempted to put a spare guide in with the skid in place but something did not feel right. I shoved a mirror up there and saw that the mount was actually broken.
I pulled the skid out today and this is what I found....

I had a front suspension arm from a parts skid I have so I pulled that out and found that the 2008 Nytro arm is different then the 2009 SE arm.
The mount points and the geometry seem the same. However you can only run one limiter strap with the 08 arm.
2009 SE arm on left, 2008 standard on the right.....

Installation Lube; one part rye, one part water, one part coke or pepsi, add a line and serve over ice. For best results serve in a Winnipeg Jets insulated cup.

Things went well in the garage last night. Got a bunch of work done had some installation lube while a snow storm raged outside.
Put the standard Nytro front arm on the suspension.
....and got the skid back in the sled!
Then it was just a matter of adding the removable weight back into my SBR clutch kit and I had a rideable sled. I still have more to do but at least I was able to take advantage of the snow fall and go for a short rip.

Nice, all good to go huh? I agree, installation lube is very important when working on stuff.
