Just picked up a 2012 Nytro yesterday and it is my first 4 stroke. The sled is stock. I have a couple of questions:
1. How far can I expect to go on a tank of gas trail riding?
2. Outside of buying a Trail Tank what other options are there for hauling extra gas?
Thanks

Last year on my 121” 2013 nytro with the trail tank I stalled out at 195km (120miles) and that was moderate trail riding in northern Ontario, luckily we had extra gas.
Stock tank is use less for trail riding, your options are the trail tank or carry extra gas with you.

Riding in the UP Michigan there are times when it is a 100 miles between gas stations. Any idea how to carry extra gas?

Than you definitely need the trail tank at minimum, I’ve read lots of reports of guys getting 100 miles out of a stock tank but I can’t see how.
I got 120 miles out of a tank with having the trail tank and that’s filling up in the morning and riding to our next destination for the night so the miles are accurate. I ended up selling the nytro for that reason because here in northern Ontario you need the distance for fuel lol.
I would get the trail tank, I know it’s not cheap but you need the extra fuel plus you can strap a 5 litre can on each side of the sled if you have to or mount the rotopax on each side of the tunnel but they are not cheap.
Search on the web extra fuel on Yamaha nytro and you will see a few ideas guys have came up with.

Absolute best mileage I've ever gotten I could've done 130 miles to empty. 100 miles isn't hard to do on a tank riding fast. I figure 80-90 miles comfortably on a tank. I built my own saddles to carry extra fuel and I have a rear rack that I can carry extra gas on as well so I have the ability to carry a extra 35 litres of gas. Tank only holds 28 to begin with. I never carry that much gas with but it's nice to have the option. Naturally with the extra weight the suspension is tasked a little more.

I’m thinking I will carry extra gas but not sure of best way to mount can due to the rear exhaust. If yours is a 144, you can mount gas on the back tunnel deck with an exhust turn out - rotopax etc.
If you only have a 121, I have seen guys place two small roto pax cans on each side for additional fuel.
Stock tank is definitely limiting. I had upgraded my sled to a trail tank. Best move.
I found mileage was a minimum to 6km per litre. Its tough to speak to gallons cause depending on who you speak with there are two different gallons - imp/US.
So a trail tank could produce at least 220km; and a stock tank can produce 168 km. If you constantly are hammering the throttle to the bar those benchmarks don't apply. The 1049 can be very mannerly on fuel but wide open those engines can guzzle.

I got 150-155 miles out of my 11 gal trail tank and then another 14 with my 1 gal emergency black fuel jug jammed into the stock yamaha XTX rack last year. Fits perfect and worked well... Pics on my rebuild thread, a few down from this one. I was gentle on the throttle when I got 165-170 and was on fumes so max range (i.e. don't go there again) but usually I am good for 120-135 miles hard on the gas as I want with the 13 gallons I carry... More than enough most rides as usually if I need a 1/2 gallon extra one of my friends has a little but never have needed their fuel, my 1 gallon is my notice find gas ASAP!

About 170 km on a tank. I got the two 5L tanks on the sliding tracks on my 144. Those extra 10 litres get me about 60 extra km

Depends on snow conditions & how you ride- spinning isn't winning.
Been days I've gotten great mileage, others not so good but only ran out 1 time in the 4 years I've had my RTX (stock tank) due to loose snow + couple wrong turns on trail, got towed about 8 miles.
Nothing worse when the light comes on and you just keep looking at it wondering when the spitting / sputtering is gonna come then yup your sitting trail side, luckily around CNY there are not so distant stretches to towns with fuel so I just top off every once in awhile.
Wife has a trail tank on her XTX if I ever need to grab a gallon.

I have a trail tank but I also have 2 aux fuel paks, 1 on each side of my sled. Haven't need the extra fuel yet but nice having it.

- 08' Nytro RTX 40th Anniversary - Stretched
Travis at BOP (Barn Of Parts) had a used Trail Tank for sale @ $175 which is a pretty good price. I paid $200 for my used one a year ago. I am rebuilding a 2008' Nytro that I picked up last year and before I ever ride it I am adding a Trail Tank for peace of mind. G.B.

250 km out of the trail tank???
Watching my sleds mileage; If you caught a day where snow was good and were running steady - I wouldn't argue with that. I bet it could do it.
