Nytro Powered Mini Jet Boat Build

Do you know how to size that intake correctly? I had a jet boat and they are extremely sensitive to blades, intakes, etc. I dont know how to size it and always marveled at how well they worked or didn't work with different impellers.

I have yet to find the correct formula for properly sizing up intakes. I have done alot of research into what has worked for other builds and what I have designed up seems to be inline with them. This is my first time messing with jet pumps so we really will not know the results till it is in the water. This is also one of the main reasons for making the intake removable and not just welding it in.

Stock intake size is 6" x 11.5" with 2 thin bars for gaurding.

My intake size is 6" x 15" with 9 - 0.250 bars spaced at 0.375 apart. =

The pump also has to sit and inch higher in my boat to match the position of the crank on the nytro engine.

I built a commercial Jet boat a while back. All aluminum, 12 passenger and used a 12" Hamilton jet pump, with a 496 chevy FI…..with 12 people in the boat it would still do 60mph, and spin on a dime…

I can appreciate the time you have doing this, and your workmanship thus far is great! Keep up the work!!!

Now start thinking about Turboing that Nytro motor…..350-400hp????? just throwing it out there

My next plan is something like this, but still on fence on motor/jet choices. I want to order the aluminum this summer and get to building then I will cross that bridge…..

Can't wait to see your progress on this build!!! Hit me up if you have any questions dialing the hull in once its floating...

AWESOME aja636!!! I will be sure to hit you up!

Here is a quick update. I have been working on the intake for the jet unit, time CONSUMING. I feel i have just as much time into the intake as i do the rest of the build. here are some pics:

Most excellent! Great fab, and I love seeing this triple placed in other applications... I'm swapping one into a new Viking UTV. So I'll be keeping an eye on this.

Thanks! And be sure to to a build thread of that!

This weekends' progress:

Got the intake all square in our big horizontal boring mill and bored the holes for the shaft and all the seals.

Learning from the best, my father:

May want to make your pump more accessible incase you suck up some seaweed or some garbage. Hard to get your hand in with all those cross pieces if something should wrap around the shaft. Also, looks like it may cavitate and starve the impeller for water with so many cross pieces.

Can't wait to see it finished

Wow that is a lot of work!

Looks great!

Oh yeah AJ is there ANY toy you don't have that isn't some extreme mod awesomness good grief man I will live vicariously through you!

Thanks Kinger!

You probably would be surprised how stock most of my toys are actually. This one and my sleds are the exceptions and even then i have yet to get into any big power adders.

Thanks timebomb,

Things getting wrapped up are definitely a concern in deeper water. In shallow i plan to just roll the boat in its side and remove the grate.

I did design and size the intake with the cross bars in mind. Even with those the opening is still a few square inches larger than stock.
