Kind of a combination of both. I am going to be making a heat exchanger. So it will be closed loop cooling for the engine then use lake water off the jet to cool the exchanger. I will be starting on it this afternoon so i will be posting pics up hopefully tomorrow.

Interesting heat exchanger, are the upper outlets for the coolant, and the lowers for water?

You are exactly right. The uppers are the in and out for the engine coolant. Lake water will pump in the bottom and out the top port. The second bottom port is for drain or garden hose hookup.
