Installed a clutch kit and swapped my top gear to a 20 t. Successfully re installed everything including the reverse fork, I might add, and took my 09 xtx for its first rip in deep powder here in Southern NB. What a difference w the Stage II SBR kit and 20 t gear!
Next day decided to check everything over and realized two things
1. I accidentally installed the set screw collar and the smaller collar (the ones between chain case cover and brake disc), in reverse order. No problem. I checked the Yamaha microfiche on line to verify the correct order, but the diagram only shows the one collar with the set screw on it. BUT, my shop manual shows both of the collars on the output shaft between the disc and outside chain case cover. Weird. I then remembered that I took pics on my cell ph of the order of things when I took them off...sure enough...two collars.
2. I must have lost my O Ring because I had some oil seepage from the bearing seal that was slightly oozing down the outside of the case. Double checked...no o ring. Ordered one, but my question is where exactly does it go. Microfiche and manual show it goes over the shaft and sits between the outer bearing seal, and the collar with the set screw. I can put it in place after the chain case is back on...but it looks to me like that o ring will simply disappear inside the oil seal and really not do much as far as blocking oil from seeping out. Or does it just rest in there and get butted up against the collar for a snug fit?? Or am I out to lunch??

O ring goes on after the cover is on and before the collar. It seals the collar from leaking. The chaincase seal rides on the collar O.D.
