Not sure if the 09 grips are warmer, but I think the heated part goes out to the hook, where as the 06 are just the straight part of the bars. I would put on the 09 bars with a yamaheater and never worry....

Hi I have 3 apexs of varying age and the hand warmers have never been enough regardless of year. I have put wind guards on all and have insulated the tips which act as heat sinks. Still in minus 30 conditions we add muffs. Not sure why Yamaha has not added more juice to the grips?i have 4 2006 apexs and just bought a 09 apex

You need the harness .I have the original bars with the harness and have no issues with cold hands. 2 bars is all you need after about 5 mins.i also have heated gloves for times when we stop and take a break ,nice and warm when you put them back on.
This is true about the ends not getting warm, but who cares .im not always hanging on to that part anyway most the time. if i need more i will turn it up.i do have muffs for the wind and heat capture ,but most the of the time i do not need.no issues yet

The 'o6 grips with the updated harness will out heat any post '07 grip.
Down side is that it is only a small heated grip area. The 09 has heat to the end of the curve and with Yamaheaters they will be just fine.
You can take '06 bars and rewire it yourself. Saves you some cash from buying the updated harness.
