Hey guys, who is running stock clutching with their ECP kit? Any problems? Anything we should do? I am helping a buddy set up his 2003 ER/LE and he still has stock clutching in it. Not sure if he wants to put the HH's in just yet!

PS...Yeah...Yeah...I know Matt has a great kit....I want to know if anyone is running the ECP kit with stock clutching. :D

I ran it last year on my stock clutched Warrior and it worked fine. Except of course for the top end issue which I believe was corrected with the evac kit. I'm sure Heavy Hitters or something similar would improve upon the kit even more.

Mike Knapp runs stock clutching without an evac and claims to run very well. He is a great race tuner and knows right from wrong. There are also many customers not running altered clutches.

I do believe however that a properly tuned aftermarket clutch is the way to go.

Mighty the correction was clutching not the EVAC kit. Wonder if he wants maximum results he will have to go the clutching route and keep the Helix but make sure it is ground for full shifts. To go the other way is like adding pipes and doing nothing else. no benefit,

Hey Freddie...ALL stock (including primary & secondary springs)?

Let me repeat myself Jim: I installed the kit with stock clutching and couldn't get the sled over 103 in perfect conditions. I installed a evac kit and the sled flew right past 103
I have since installed a Heavy Hitter Stage II kit from Matt but havn't run it yet.

Talk to me after you have the clutch kit running, also I hope you have the Stage for the filters especially the secondary spring.

The Warrior already comes stock with the white spring that Matt recommends. I also have the Heavy Hitters set to his specs for the filters.

My Opinion

RXWonder, Yes I run ALL STOCK Clutching in my trail sleds! Freddie is correct except for the EVAC, I run the evac set up. In fact I was, what I belive, to be the one to come up with the evac setup. Never had a MPH loss, ever! Theres something to be said about the stock clutching in that it works well in a trail application where you are asking the machine to do a number of things. Not that it can't be improved upon however for a specific task, such as drag racing or top speed running. I do plan on doing some testing, and may market some kits if they are good. I will not take someones money if it is not better than whats available though. You must understand the many things you are asking the clutch to do. Start the movement, hold proper shift speed, and decelerate the machine all whithout slipping. Then, everyone wants it to be the fastest on the lake, fastest on the trail, fastest in the snow and the fastest on the radar gun, ect, ect. Thats the compromise! You can't have it all with one kit. Enough rambling, that is why I like the stock clutching for riding. It keeps the fuel mileage up, keeps the RPM down at a cruising speed and offers a nice compromise. That is where the ECP filter kit shines, because when you grab a hand full and it drives through the mid range, it will take you to the topend like the stock airbox can't. Notice with a stock sled how it creeps to 10,200 slowly? Now put the filters on and you'll see it jam right to 10200 and climb. The filter kit works, clutched or not, thats the bottom line! Freddie your going to have to start paying me royalties, just kidding. Guys, I would never endorse a product that didn't work, that is not my style. It is a tough road with performance products because there are way to many out there that are willing to take your money and send out junk! That is one thing I HATE! Its good to do your reasearch, ask questions, work with honest people, don't fall prey to the guys who are just there to take your money! All right thats enough rambling, I got to get back to work, cylinders don't port themselves! PLEASE DON'T PM ME, I'M NOT TRYING TO BE A JERK BUT, I DON'T HAVE THE TIME TO FOLLOW UP. NOT ENOUGH TIME IN THE DAY. Thanks, Mike Knapp #17

Thanks Mike...that's EXACTLY what I needed to know and EXACTLY my thoughts on stock clutching as well.

Cheers!!!

Dan, the guy that purchased your kit put it on his sled and never lost a beat. You must have done something wrong in your installation.
