oil capacity

I did my first oil change but the manual is a little confusing. In the little box it says if you change the filter add 3.38qts and then on the bottom it says total amount 4.12qts, which is it?

If the motor is brand new it takes the biggest amount. But a normal oil change my vector takes three full liters... That's about 3.5 qts.MM.
