I'm in the middle of my first oil change (and filter). I've seen the posts about adding 3.5 qts. US with a filter change. Should I put all into the tank, or should some go into the crankcase? Also, I'm assuming when adding to the crankcase we are talking the filler plug on the left side top of the valve cover? Thanks.

All in the tank.

I was told by my dealer to add some into the crankcase.

I did half a quart in the crankcase and the rest in the tank.
You could probably put all of it in the tank without any issues.
You don't want to add too much to the crankcase though, half a quart max. And yes, it's the plug on the left top of the block.

Why would you do that when the owners manual tells you not to????

Thanks, completed the change. I would have to agree with Turk, staying with the manual recommendation. I added all to the crankcase, and started. I did not hear any valve train noise on start-up. I suspected there would still be some oil left in the engine after draining? Enough to provide lubrication for the few seconds until the new oil caught up.

Correction, I added all to the tank.
