Im hopeing the filter can hold on for a few weeks more. It's the original filter that came with the sled new. I neve did things like this but I'm alot older and my back is going..so is my life style..makes me want to but I don't.
Wish I had a good pension. I an't going to give them $130.00 for an oil change. And it may not be done right.
Too bad one of you guys didn't live near by. I would make ya a deal to help me.
if you gone this long the filter should be o.k., but i would try and get it done soon, there must be someone up in your area that could help you chnage it out without killing you on the price of changing it

Maybe thats what Yamaha says, but who is paying for the new motor in the sled if it blows, sure not Yamaha. The sled was too expensive to try and save $10 and a half hour of your time. I change the filter when I change the oil. I do the same in my drag boat motor and that hold 14 quarts of oil, and I cahnge that every couple of weekends depending on how hard I run. Oil is cheap and so aren't filters.

Allen Ulmer has a detailed writeup about installing their filter relocation kit that gives very good instructions on how to disassemble the sled to get at the filter. I can be mechicanically challenged at times and with a little help I was able to complete the task without any problems. I could have done it alone, but was nice to have a spare set of hands and another guy to remember how certain things went back together. The hardest part was getting the filter off. It may take you a couple of hours to do the job, but just go slow and it really isn't all that difficult.

I've been reading on how to do this all summer and fall..I just been real busy, sick with a cold and I managed to get good riding in finally..and broke the 500 mile mark easy.
I'm working on getting French Doors in my cellar so I can drag the sled inside..so I can work on it at night.
I've done lot's of mechanic work on stuff..since I was a kid..head jobs, engine replacements, full time transfer case gear replacements, brakes, etc.still do..Just some good weather and time to do it.
