Does anyone else notice this? When riding in deep powder during the day i notice black oil coming out from the vents by the brake side, wich gets my snow pants all dirty, i'm thinking its coming off the brake when ever the snow comes in and melts and sort of ozes out of the vents and, after i let it dry in the shop it turns more of like soot. Does anyone else experience this? when riding in deep powder, can i close off the vents on the brake side so i don't get my pants all dirty? THANKS

It's brake dust. I haven't gotten it on me (yet) but I've seen it.
I took Outerwares material and covered the lower vent on the brake side to help stop snow ingestion.

I have noticed this more this year than last. Just the brake dust.

I noticed this as well last year, and it looked as though it was coming from the top of the oil tank where the oil level stick screws in. Check your tank and see if you notice a stain from where oil may be running down the side of the tank.

It's not oil!!
Snow gets in thru the vents, hits the very warm/hot rotor and melts, rotor has scoops for forced air cooling, rotor throws now dirty brake dust filled snow(water) onto oil tank and it runs down the side staining the tank with a brownish/blackish residue.
Some of this crud finds its way outa the engine bay & gets on the righthand floorboard.

Glad to hear you're relieved. I hope I didn't sound too much like a jerk by pretty much yelling at you, but it's simple things like this that gets the vicious internet rumors & BS going.

What about putting some pre-filter material on the intake vents on that side? I know SLP makes some pretty nice stuff.

Well at first I was like WTF ??? But then the relief of what you and NL found took over, so it's all good. And I wasn't trying to start a rumour, I just said to check the tank and see if it was in fact oil leaking down from the top. I'm all for helping guys out like most on here, no time for BS

As I posted above..... I took some Outerwares (K&N prefilter) material and siliconed it to the inside, covering the vent. So far it's working, but I've only had it on for 40 or so miles. So, I guess time will tell if the silicone holds.
