Oil Consumption - light at the end of tunnel...maybe

When running at extended period's of high rpm's it better to have a little less oil in the engine than it being filled to spec that way you're not making the engine work harder to pump the excess oil through the engine,if there's too much oil in the engine and you're running high rpm's all the time the engine will dispose of the excess oil itself through the breather. The only time your oil level should be at spec is if you plan on doing at lot of low speed driving that way there's enough lubricant in the engine at that low of an rpm.The best way to know if you have the right amount of oil is to check inside the airbox after everyride, because this motor is constantly in the upper part of the rpm scale it has excellent lubricating quality's so by loading up the engine with excess oil will only make the engine work harder and build more heat into the engine not to mention loss of speed and responce. When we ran superbikes we would alway's put a little less in the engine because at the high operating speed's it only put's more stress on the engine to flow the additional oil not to mention the crank having to slop through all the excess oil and robbing accelaration and top end.I put just enough in the tank so when I ride all day at high rpm's and check the inside of my airbox and see no trace's of blow by that's the right amount, basically at the "E" or just above.Just my .02 :D

Harley Davidson big twins have been running this type of oil system for years. These motors do not care how much oil is in the tank as long as the oil level is above the suction hose. It is one of the best because oil levels are not as critical.

Again, I'll repeat. DRY SUMP. The exact same amount of oil is in the engine REGARDLESS of the level in the tank. The exact same amount of oil flows through the pump regardless of what is in the tank.
