After riding about 250 miles this weekend i can say for sure that it burns oil.
I have not noticed it using any oil earlier this season, which has been several shorter rides.
Normal riding, not agressive in any way. I have about 200 miles before this weekend.
Not a drop of oil missing in those miles.
This weekend i travelled 100 miles each way, with an average speed of 60 mph.
Pretty agressive riding and a lot of cars got passed on my way.
She burned 9 litres of fuel, and 0.3 litres of oil in those 100 miles.
This could not be normal? What am i looking at here?
The bike runs good, starts easily every time, and sounds perfectly healthy to me.

I performed a compression test on it today, which turned out good.
Just as the spec in the manual states. I also squirted a couple drops of oil in the cylinder and did another test, which turned out with the exact same result. If I got right that means that my rings are okay.
Could it be that the oil im using gets to thin for longer harder runs? Like the one i had this weekend?
I was running fully synthetic 10W40.
Either way I replaced the oil today with a mineral 15W40.
Whats your opinion?

There is a procedure for checking the oil which you let the quad cool off completely(after a long ride) then start it up for a few minutes then check the oil.If you do it different than this it will not get a correct reading.Very trcky like the RX-1

I read on raptorforum.com and the service manual to let the engine warm up to operating temp,
shut off, wait for some minutes. Then check dipstick without screwing it in.
Isnt that good enough? Thats how I have done it every time. And the level has always been correct (except now..)
How do you check your oil level?

I checked the oil level 3 times today.
First with cold engine, after standing still for about 12 hours.
Second, warmed engine for 5 minutes, let sit for 2-3 mins.
Third, rode it for one hour, let it sit for 30 secs.
Same result each time.
I dont know what to think anymore…

Maybe you should toss some Ring Free in the engine from Yamaha. Maybe you have some carbon build up... shock the engine and then change the oil.

Do you have any real life experience with that additive? Does it work good?

I have used it on Motorcycles and it really made the bike run better... I cant be 100% sure but the bike did use some oil and after the shock and oil change it seemed to be good up until I traded in the bike last month.

Ok, I see.
Exactly what do you mean by "shock the engine" ? Like rev it up real high?

If you get a bottle of the stuff there is a SHOCK procedure, more of the solution for the 1st tank to help knock the carbon off the motor.
