Wife picked me up a filter today for my 07 Attak. Manual says to use 5GH-13440-20. The dealer gave her a 5GH-13440-50. She questioned him on it, he told her it is the same thing.
That just doesn't cut it for me. Is it the same filter with an updated number, or is it a filter for a different machine that "will work"?

a bit of searching on the net shows that this filter is most commonly used as a "marine Grade" filter. Boat motors use the number ending in 50.
So, do I install it? The dealer is an hour away, and my oil is drained. There is no snow here so I am not in a rush to finish, but I also don't like the idea of leaving the motor sit without oil.

From my own googling, it seems to be a new superseded part number for the same filter and it appears in the cross reference with the old number.

If there are no physical differences, it's the same. Some have mentioned that Yamaha gave them the shorter -50 filter instead of another one which was supposed to be longer.

Ok, thanks. I kind of found the same thing. Went to official yamaha parts site, it shows that the number changed but the new number is the same - 20 number lol. Must be a typo.
I'm going to go ahead and install it.

Yes, the 5GH filter numbers have changed slightly in the last year or so.
The 13440-00 filter is now a 13440-30 and the 13440-20 is now a 13440-50.
The 13440-20 and 13440-50 are approximately a 1/4" shorter than the other 2 numbers

It's shorter and they probably charge just as much or more than before.
