Well even if that is true, and the filter bypasses. The oil will still be carrying the little bits around until the filter is back online. At that time it will remove them so all the little bits wind up in the filter no matter what.
Saying a filter is hardly used make no sense! Same amount will be filtered out either way.
Somehow I find the filter bypass thing a little hard to believe! First time I heard of a filter being bypassed for flow.
