I will be running a Walmart Super Tech filter for the first time this year. It was $2.97 at my local Walmart. G.B.

Well yes, and if you believe some of the blogs on the Net the Wally World filter is rated pretty high. This filter also has a little more capacity than the Yamaha filter. G.B.

A bud of mine just sent me a pre-season inspection sheet of all the mtce schedules, things to check out at certain miles and times and in it I seen a reference to the Hi-Flo filter.
This is direct from Yamaha I do believe?

Why do u think you need more capacity in the oil filter it doesn't matter its just filtering the oil the more in there doesn't mean it is doing a better job and just because it has more doesn't mean more is going though eng. I will stick with yamaha 1's

It's not because of the fact a filter holds more oil (higher capacity) that makes it better, it's because there is more filtering media available. A smaller filter's media would plug up with dirt faster than a bigger one. Once plugged up, it goes into bypass mode and sends unfiltered oil to the engine. I used to replace the recommended filter on my old Chevy V8 with the taller truck version just for that little extra insurance for an extra 50 cents.
As far as Yamaha vs. other filters, it's a matter of price and principle. Why spend $25-30 for a filter when another (probably better) one can be used for half that? We're already being gouged on (inferior) parts that are only available from Yamaha so why give them more money? I cut open their filter and it was just an OK filter. Nothing fantastic about it. My next filter will be a K&N.

Exactly. Why pay high $$$ for just an OK filter (and oil for that matter).

I went to Wally World and bought Super Tech filters for my Vector and 2 vehicles. After spending what...$15 on the Yami filter, and $12 a piece for Mobil 1 filters I figured I saved myself about $30 in filters alone.
Penny wise and dollar foolish people drive me nuts....I hope I didn't just join the crowd!!!! LOL!!!
Next will be running Amsoil in place of the stock Yami crankcase oil. I've been running Mobil 1 gear oil in the chaincase since day 1, and when I took it all apart last season to change my track, everything was nice and clean inside.

I've also been running Mobil 1 Synthetic lube in the chaincase for a long time. This stuff is great.
Going to run Mobil 1 0w-30 full synthetic in crankcase for the first time this season. Much less $$$ than semi-syn Yama lube, too. Wallyworld has this oil for about $22 per 5 quart jug.
