I have 2009 RTX SE that had the track tear on 3 sides of a double stud section and the studs wore two grooves in the heat exchanger Saturday, which then caused the temp light to come on, thought it was the normal run in the powder to get it to go off. The sled the shut itself off. Flipped it on it's right side, oil was then dripping out the belly pan. Took the belt off and towed it back home.

Now that I have it torn down to have the exchanger welded, started it for a sec to get it off the trailer and it has an error code 30 flashing on the display so I shut it right down. Looked up the code and it low oil pressure. I then looked all over for a leak, don't see one on the engine itself anywhere. Checked the oil res and it was super low so I added oil. Started it up again and no code, but the breather going into the air box started spitting a little oil, which then turned to a steady pour. What would cause the oil to flow to the air box in a steady stream from the res?

In order for the oil to be flowing in my mind backwards, would I have blow by on my rings? What type of pressure should I see in the cylinder i f I do a pressure test?

Did you possibly overfill it?

ouch. this thread is worth paying attention too. curious whats going on, good luck

I don't think so, but it was midnight. I'll check the level again when I get home tonight

I would guess that when you tipped it on the right side the dry sump tank emptied into the air box, causing the low oil pressure light.

I only filled the res back up last night. Should I empty the res and the crankcase and do a full oil change so that I know the case is full and the proper amount of oil is in the system?

I wouldn't think you would need to do a full oil change. Fill dry sump tank to full line on dipstick, start engine, let run a couple minutes, shut off and recheck level. Add (or remove) oil as needed.
Good luck. I think you will be fine.

Good idea but purely your call.

Tipping it on the right side could put oil in your air box so that might be insignificant. The oil pressure thing is a bit more scarey though. You'd have to drain a pile of oil out of it to lose oil pressure. Unless it was just the low oil light on. There have been cases of wrecked motors thanks to studs hopefully that's not your case though. As me ruined a leak down test will tell the true story without having to open it up.

The right side is the lesser of the 2 evils. Putting her on the left side is the worst case. An ROV is the true fail safe if you want to tip these hogs over....

Just installed OFT moto-r-kill and roll over valve today. Now I can ride crazy without worry about the oil going into the air box if I put her on her side.

I threw my Phazer down the trail with no ROV on it, oil out the airbox & still rode it wadded

40 miles back to the truck.
Had 8700 miles on it.
RuggyBuggy on here now has it in his Phazer, still going good.

Flopped the Nytro upside down last season as well with no ROV & it's fine.

Time will tell. I've just heard too many horror stories and I feel it's cheap insurance.
