I drain oil from hoses because I remove the cover with the tank on and service the chain case. Never have had an issue building oil pressure plus I like getting it all out of there too. You should have seen the crap inside the tank when I resealed it the first time too! Shavings and silicone debris from assembly galore. Glad I split the oil tank the first time.
Oh Great...something else on my list of things to do!

If one is OCD about getting all the old oil out, this is the better way to go. Aside from the oil lines, there are other places that trap oil. In addition, you only need enough oil so the tank isn't dry while flushing of course, since these are dry sump types.I think it's easier to flush out with plain oil, drain & re-fill. Costs me $9.00.
It sorta rinses out the motor & flushes out those hoses anyways.
All my hoses are sealed with a sealant so i don't want to break the seals.
TO EACH THEIR OWN
I drain mine everytime. Its easy to look at the gauge to see if the oil pressure light stays on.

Dealer said not to drain the oil lines when doing a oil change they had 1 oil pump fail from a air lock said the motor needs that little bit of oil to ensure it will pump oil on initial start
Sounds like someone F-UP and forgot to fill the engine with oil.

Or the starter gear blew up and pieces of debris entered the pump?
I can tell you this, an oil pump that is not building pressure can spin a hell of a lot longer without sustaining damage than the the reciprocating assembly.
If the pump was damaged from lack of oil, the engine bearings are totally gone!
