Dealer said not to drain the oil lines when doing a oil change they had 1 oil pump fail from a air lock said the motor needs that little bit of oil to ensure it will pump oil on initial start

ALWAYS listen the dealer :dunno::rofl:

Just hit kill switch and turn it over awhile before starting then. Even after removing the hoses there is still quite a bit of oil held in sidecover. I would say about a cup full when I had mine off.

I have been draining the oil lines on my Apex's for 13 years with no problem's to any of my ENGINE'S . approx 47,000 miles.

When i built a new Apex engine, oil pump needed priming. And it was simple and fast. An engine with oil in it already, and in the pump already will never have issues due to draining piping. That dealer really needs to think abit deeper IMO.

Same dealer that sold you the oil warranty cash grab and says semi synth oil is best? lol

dealer never sold me a warranty no cash grab here its all coming from yamaha trying to sell there oil , he's telling me they had 1 failure due too draining hoses and creating an air lock doesn't matter if oil is still in the pump once the air goes though it wont pump anymore not agreeing with it i'm just relaying the information , there was a post earlier about hitting the kill button and rolling it over could even fill the hose back up with clean oil after draining it then roll it over with kill button on

I think it's easier to flush out with plain oil, drain & re-fill. Costs me $9.00.
It sorta rinses out the motor & flushes out those hoses anyways.
All my hoses are sealed with a sealant so i don't want to break the seals.

TO EACH THEIR OWN

I never drain hoses The oil filter does its job! We’re talking one cup of oil here? Lol

Actually all oil filters only work at idle or slightly above.
Plus the filter does not remove water or gases that work their way in there.
BUT, i agree 1 cup of oil does not mean we need to sweat or lose sleep........................................................................................unless you have OCD!

So with this theory I wonder how you fill the oil filter 100% and install sideways on motor so there is no air in the filter, if dealer thinks any air in lines will cause pump to not pump.

No worries! I’m thinking horse tranquilizers! It all good. That’s a inside UP joke folks eh!

More rumors....
Just change your oil like the manual says.

I drain oil from hoses because I remove the cover with the tank on and service the chain case. Never have had an issue building oil pressure plus I like getting it all out of there too. You should have seen the crap inside the tank when I resealed it the first time too! Shavings and silicone debris from assembly galore. Glad I split the oil tank the first time.

Mike do you use silicone on the chain case when reinstalling it?

Not on the chain case, but I used Ultra Black on the oil tank seal.
