I own a Nytro 2007 with 6000 miles on it. Lately, I have noticed that every time I come to a stop then accelerate moderately to 20-30 mph, I get this annoying oil smell draft.

I open up the air box, and noticed small pieces of yellowish ice. These pieces of ice are contaminated with oil. Same smell as mentioned above.

As well the foam filter has turned yellowish/gold. It is as well contaminated and soak with oil. Well, looks like considerable amount of engine oil gets sucked in the air box...

I suspect this oil draft is coming from the air box. But what is the root cause???

We have 2 other Nytros 2007 and a Vector 2007 that don't have this situation.

Thx for your advice, inputs.

The crankcase vent breather is directed into the airbox.

Is it actively being sucked in all the time, or did it get flooded once and just stayed? I haven't looked closely at that machine, but if its anything like the others, laying it on the wrong side will cause oil to spill out the breather into the airbox.

Apex 06 GT does same thing ! Just wipe oil out and clean filter material with carb cleaner about
every 1000 miles ! Good as new and ready to rock !

If I recall, once while playing in powder, I flipped it on the side (throttle side) smoothly; nothing drastic. That is in December.

Yellowish ice build-up in the air box is all the time. Everything is tight, I checked.

The oil smell draft only appeared (noticed) on my last 10 days trip 2 weeks ago.

thx

Guy, haven't had that problem with mine ... not that this helps you. Could you have too much oil (or pressure) which could be forcing it out into your air box through the crank case vent hose? Who knows, maybe this couldn't even happen.

Im not sure but I think alot of carving and wheelies will blow some in the box. My rtx does anyway. Hardly anything normal riding but when playing in deep snow and carving and hanging wheelies I get a little more. My old kawasaki brute force atv did the same thing unless I only filled the oil to the half way mark on the dipstick
