Looks like a nice rubber o-ring type seal would work great in there. Must be some reason they didn’t use one. So I guess the lower plastic likely needs to be removed?Did your tank seal blow? It looks like they can design a gasket for that tank pretty easy unless they think the sealant is better?

I was thinking the same thing. Not sure why you couldn't just mount a Nytro tank in the same place.I swear we should just add a separate tank, cant Travis just make us all a nice alum tank that will fit there?

I agree. Seems doable. I don’t like the idea of relying on silicone to keep my oil in place.I was thinking the same thing. Not sure why you couldn't just mount a Nytro tank in the same place.

I have an aftermarket upgraded tank on my nytro after the stock tank cracked on one of the mounting holes. Guy did a great job. Thicker material, good strength. This could easily be fabricated for the SW and Viper application.

Just did mine yesterday there’s a groove Dan easy to do. One ride with only 550 km on the sled.roll over valve mod done at 39 km it was new old stock
And also I thank cannondale give me some info
Hammer,
Did you place the new seal without taking the chaincase cover off? and
Do you just lay a solid bead of sealant around the groove and screw the tank back on? Loctite on the bolts?
Thanks

Not sure we have enough width there for a nytro tank, but possibly?
I would rather see a tough alum heavy duty tank made, tall and thin so it fits easily....the bonus could be that it would be designed with access to chain tensioner in mind...
Travis? Hopefully he will read this...if not next fall I will custom make my own i think.

Yes did it on sled put nice bead silicone 1/8” you will fill the grove, you will see what I mean. Clean all holes and bolts with brake clean , blow out with air. Apply blue loctite a good amount tighten down skip every other one x pattern let dry 24hrs and your good to go
I torqued to 96” lbs

Dan,
I used the aftermarket nytro tank as an example. There is no way it could fit .
However that type of construction could be applied here to make a autonomous self contained oil tank. Should reach out to the guys I purchased mine from. They built a good tank.

On my 2014 Viper the oil tank dripped after one season. Took the oil tank apart when servicing chaincase and resealed using permatex ultra black, never leaked again .
I found very little sealer from factory. So far 2017 Sidewinder still dry. 5600 kms
I think/hope the issue is only on the 18’s. My 17 LTX is dry. The 18 RTX 50th has already been to the dealer at 600kms for a reseal and refill. Nothing since then....

It's the same roll over valve and tank design as the 17 SW and 17 owners have had this issue. The only issue that has been seen on the 18 and not 17 is the sight glass in chain case falling out. This seems really weird and probably a bad batch of case covers. Either way it looks like we have to keep a sharp eye on things.I think/hope the issue is only on the 18’s. My 17 LTX is dry. The 18 RTX 50th has already been to the dealer at 600kms for a reseal and refill. Nothing since then....

Hey Dan
A company called CFM Performance in Michigan makes aftermarket tanks for apex's and nytro's - and all sorts of atv's.
I sent them a note to see if this is something they would look into for the Vipers and SW's and will see what they say.
I bet it can be easily done.

If you have a leak check the 2 bolts/screws holding the connector elbow at the bottom of the tank. One of my bolts wasn’t tight and the elbow wasnt sitting flush. Not sure if this was where mine was leaking as I didn’t notice until after tank was removed but it’s worth checking I think.
