I have gone over quite a few posts with contradicting info. Some say strictly, DO NOT add to motor through top plug and others say to add 3/4 liter to the motor and rest to tank.
Whats the deal here? Preference?

I have no owners manual, not sure what the seller did with it, but I do have the mechanics service manual.
No where does it state adding oil to the engine. I did my change and added a liter to the engine and when I started it 15 minutes later, it is revving at 900 rpm oppose to 1600. I let it sit over night and Ill check again after work.

why is there a fill plug in the engine if it's not for pouring oil in though? i would think it was a good idea...
The only time it's necessary to add oil through the engine is on a fresh rebuild where the engine is completely dry and empty. That is the reason for the fill plug plus to allow air into the engine while draining the old oil so it comes out faster and more completely.

Of course I found that link posted on TY shortly after paying $12 for a CD copy of it mailed to me.

Adding oil to the engine does nothing to help the lubrication of the engine during startup. The oil is pumped from the oil tank through the oil passages in the engine. The oil drains down into the bottom of the engine and is then pumped back to the tank. The oil is pumped back to the tank at the same rate that is drains into the bottom of the engine so adding oil to the engine will result in more oil being "stored" in the bottom of the engine which us bad for both performance and oil consumption. The net is: Add oil ONLY to the oil tank.

what i do when changeing the oil..before start up...turn the thing over a few times.....i was told this will help the oil get into the motor..just make sure you do something to make it not start...i might be wrong...but its worked for me and my buddy...i use to pull my 2-smoke with the ignition off...this let some gas and oil into the cylinder before you start it..less chance of damage when you have dry cylinders.
