Hello all,
I may have actually found a dealer whos willing to work with me on this oil usage problem. He admits that the oil I go through is just plain crazy. One problem is that it would help if my old dealer recorded this issue when I spoke to them about it, but I have a feeling that when they told me "ignore it, its normal", they didn't bother putting the complaint on record. The first thing the new dealer wants me to do is contact Yamaha, so what I would like to do is be able to give them figures about how much oil other riders go through. So if you don't mind, either post on here, or message me, describing the year of your sled, how many miles on it, how many were on it when (if) you stated using oil, how much oil you go through, your riding speed/style, what brand/type of oil you use, and anything else that might be of useful info. I'm not looking for suggestions...we have a few threads going on dealing with that...just info about the usage. Also, I won't use any names/identities unless someone specifically gives permission for me to do so. I just want numbers I can use. Hell, if I get enough responses, I could do up a little graph using the info.
Thanks for any help here.

My sled has burned a total of about 4 qts. ~5000 miles on, started happening ~3000 miles. Only happens at the END of the year after the trails are closed... when the usage is limited to straight line wide open down the lake back and forth. I couldn't tell you about the type of oil, I just use whatever is laying around in my garage at the time when its needed.

I know many others on here have had excessive oil usage, they have posted on the other threads...I'm hoping some of them jump in and give their info. But this is good...I have many others with more miles than I who don't use oil.

My sled uses oil. Not too much before ECP filters...but lots now...will try EVAC kit.
Should do a poll on oil usage for people who thaw their sled every weekend , and those who leave them outside all winter.
Seem like crankcase pressure possibly. Frozen hoses?
Before the ECP's...used about 200ml every 700km.

Hi!!My wife's rx-1 does burn oil.It has about 2300mi,started at 1700mi.She rides hard with a bunch of guys f-7's and other rx-1's.the other rx-1 also burns oil about same miles and amount.....We burn a qt about every 300-400 miles in northern ma. and nh.broken in by the yamaha.
If you check the piston ring part #'s you will see a change for 2005????
I think it is the rings!!!!!At least arctic-cat stepped up and fixed the problems, yamaha says run ring free and your all set!!!!!!
The motor has to come out to change the rings......It is a soild casts.Sounds like alot of fun!!!!!
I hope I'm wrong but I hate to say........I do love the sled but Yamaha should step up and give us some assistance..........If not I'm back to cat....

03/04 rings:
5LV-11603-00-00
05 rings:
8FU-11603-00-00
Pistons and cylinders are all the same.
I wonder if there's anybody with the equipment and chance of looking inside the engines who could actually do a measure and compare between the different part numbers. I for one would really like to know what the difference is between the rings.

2700mi and no oil burning at all. Installed turbo from new. Broke it in "ride it like you stole it", except for extended wide open throtle runs down the lake.............untill it broke in (around 1000 mi.) then the length of the lake was the limit. Only thing is I never used any synthetic oil at all.On a personal note, I think it is the synthetic oil.....many peole here dissagree with me, but I am sticking to the dino oil.

George, I had the problem when I was still using dino oil. In fact, I switched to synthetic last season after several people on here thought that synthetic would solve the problem. I'm probably going back to dino oil this season so that I can buy oil anywhere, since I go through so much.
