5 minutes into first ride of the season on my 2011 xtx, 5 degrees outside and warning light and engine temp light go on. WTF? Snow is dry and a bit thin but there is enough. Thoughts? Thanks!

Do you have air in the coolant system possibly. Check your antifreeze levels. Maybe she just needs a good burp.

Had to burp my old rx warrior trailside many years ago but don't have a clue about burping a nytro. What's the procedure? Weird thing was at low speeds lights turned on but at speeds above 40 mph lights turned off. Temp warning lights I mean.

Maybe you need some ice scratches are you sure there is enough snow getting into the skid? Anytime its been icy or low snow I would over heat, but after adding scratchers that stopped the overheating.

Is it a taller lug track? Do 2012 Nytro's have an extra cooler in the tunnel? Most of the earlier Nytro's and Apex's have always run on the edge of the hot zone. It takes very little to put them over. Even some days where you think the conditions are good, it still must be a case of inadequate snow landing on the cooler.

Just one cooler up front that I could see. Last year I rode in low snow conditions and air temps below freezing and had no issues. Only had issues in low snow conditions and higher air temp situations....like 38 to 40 degrees. I'll try burping coolant line if I can find the how to info. I sure didnt hear a radiator fan running when I was idling with the high temp light lights. I checked that fuse and it looked good.

I don't know that I would panic over just one occurrence, but we have an 09 Nytro XTX that we put the mountain cooler in the tunnel and installed a digital temp guage from Ulmer. Now we know, that we are running 175 degrees fahrenheit 96 percent of the time. It climbs like crazy if you sit and idle, if you are stopping for more than a minute, probably good advice to shut them off. But there is the odd day that it climbs to 195 degrees every now and then, but if I really looked for the problem that day, I'd probably figure it out. Either driving too slow, wet snow doesn't circulate, and many more possibilities, again, it all boils down to no snow on the coolers. Herndonp's suggestion of scratchers, is always a good one. If it was good last year, and you haven't taken apart the cooling system, and your coolant level is where it should be, and you didn't have to add any significant amount of coolant, I can't see any reason why you'd have to burp it.

If you didn't have issues in the past and nothing has changed since last season then I'd check to make sure the fan is coming on. It's hard to hear so you'll need to visually look to see if it's spinning when hot. With all the relay issues the Nytro has had it wouldn't be a big surprise if the fan relay quite working. I replaced mine with a new solid state relay.

X2 from what grizz said. Had same issue two years ago so I took cowl off and rode in a field at home and waited to see if fan would come on. Turned out it was a faulty relay.
My discovery, the nytro will run quite easily in warm temps ( 10 degrees C) as long as there is lots of snow being thrown on the exchanger. Let it idle for 30 seconds and the light will come on.
