I have a '03 Rx-1M and have never had it over heat in the five years I've owned it but in the past few days she has been displaying the light in the dash and no matter how much snow I pack on the runner boards and the rear rad I can't get her to cool down. There is a pin hole in one of the rads but I doubt that is the cause of the problem. Yamaha dealer said thermostat or water pump. I just want to ask and make sure it isn't that pin hole and if anyone has any other suggestions.

Pin hole = coolant loss,
No coolant = overheat.
No coolant = overheat.

pinhole = coolant loss = air bubbles in sealed cooling system = overheating

I would fix pinhole first.....then go from there.....if you over heat it to many times you could blow out the head gasket.....so I wouldn't ride it till you get the over heating thing fixed.....

had a t-stat go bad on my 03 years ago, would overheat in snow on lake at any rpm over 8000. fix the pinhole first but know that t-stat can go bad.

Regardless if your solution is 50/50 and in fresh condition, if you have a pin hole it will not allow the system to be properly pressurized like it needs to be in order to reduce the boiling point.
Fix the pinhole.

Once you do all that, make sure the fan on the rad is working. I have had a relay go, and without the fan drawing air through, the rad couldnt take the heat out fast enough triggering the light to come on.

I dont think the RX-1 came with a radiator and fan.

How can it be a sealed system if there is an overflow hose in the coolant bottle? Also, the hole has been there for a nice while with no problems until recently.

Overflow hose is on the "outside" of the coolant resevoir cap. No radiator on an RX-1.
Agreed on fixing the hole first. Easy fix for a welder.

Spring loaded cap, just like a car automotive system. PSI of the cap per the FSM is 14-18 psi.
Agreed though, a pinhole leak will prevent the pressure from building, which in turn DRAMATICALLY lowers the boiling point. When the low pressure coolant touches hot engine parts, it creates steam, which doesn't carry heat nearly as well as liquid. The other problem with a pinhole leak is that it allows air back into the system as it cools down.
Fix the pinhole!

Fix the hole, I suggest JB Weld for a quick fix. Fill her up and bleed out the air. Take her for a ride.

FIX THE HOLE, a pressurized cooling system is not operating properly when not pressurized.

I've ruled out the thermostat so now it's either the pin hole or the water pump. Each one is a pain in the #*$&@. I can't see the hole in the rad and in order to fix the pump I'm guessing you have to pull the motor?!?! The hole in the rad in between the side of the rad and the body so I have to take the entire rad off which looks like a really big job.
